Departmental Learning Goals & Outcomes

The Center for Leadership has selected three learning goals and created associated learning outcomes for assessment (1-2 areas per year).

Goal 1 – Leadership Development

Learning Outcomes –

  • 85% of skill-based leadership workshop participants will report increased confidence in applying leadership skills within their academic, campus, student employment, or community involvement.
  • As a result of co-curricular engagement, students will increase their leadership self-efficacy prior to graduation (Blooms: Evaluate)
  • As a result of co-curricular engagement, students: will illustrate the meaning of being a socially responsible leader (Blooms: Analyze)
  • Affiliated Competencies: Exploring Personal Foundations for Leadership, Establishing One’s Self as an Authentic Leader, and Continuing Growth as a Leader

Goal 2 – Intercultural Competence & Cultural Humility

Learning Outcomes – As a result of co-curricular engagement, students will:

  • demonstrate a deeper knowledge of self through the exploration of personal identities in leadership settings (Blooms: Apply)
  • appraise their level of cultural competence and cultural humility in settings where they practice their leadership skills (Blooms: Evaluate)
  • Affiliated Competencies: Incorporating Social Justice Values into Demonstrated Leadership, and Leading in the Interpersonal Context

Goal 3 – Community Engagement

Learning Outcomes – As a result of co-curricular engagement, students will:

  • demonstrate a commitment to work collaboratively with communities to advance the common good and reflect on the impact of one’s actions. (Blooms: Apply)
  • Affiliated Competency: Effecting Organizational and Systemic Change

Student Leadership Competencies

The Center for Leadership programs help students develop the competencies they need to become effective leaders. Below are competencies and subsequent learning outcomes adapted from Student Leadership Competencies by Dr. Corey Seemiller.

Exploring Personal Foundations for Leadership
