ElonGROW (Guided Reflection on Work) is a framework designed to help students connect what they’re learning in the classroom with the skills they’re developing in their campus jobs. Through brief conversations with their supervisors, students reflect on how their work supports their academic, professional, and personal growth. The goal is for students to better understand the value of their job, how it prepares them for future opportunities, and to foster a meaningful relationship with their supervisor. Ultimately, ElonGROW makes the student work experience more intentional, meaningful, and impactful.

Helping ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ GROW

Research shows that student employees recognize the skills they gain on the job, including time management, teamwork, and problem solving. What they often do not do on their own is connect their work experience to what they are learning in the classroom. Some connections are obvious. Others require more intentional reflection. Supervisors play a key role in helping students make those connections.

ElonGROW centers on four anchor questions:

  1. How is this job fitting in with your academics?
  2. What are you learning here that is helping you in school?
  3. What are you learning in class that you can apply here at work?
  4. What have you learned here that you will use in your chosen profession?

Supervisors already check in with students about tasks, projects, and performance. Taking a few additional minutes to ask about classes and encourage students to connect their work and academic learning can make a lasting impact.

The resources on this site will help you implement ElonGROW with your student employees and integrate guided reflection into your existing supervision practices.
