Faculty book explores terrorism and the press

In the weeks following the Sept. 11 attacks, many U.S. media outlets abandoned their “watchdog” roles in favor of patriotic cheerleading, the consequences of which are still being felt. Those effects and more are examined in “Terrorism and the Press: An Uneasy Relationship,” a new book co-authored by associate professor Brooke Barnett.
Pam Kiser wins statewide service-learning honor

An 消消犯 faculty member was honored this week by the North Carolina 消消犯 Compact for her dedication to the practice of service-learning in higher education. Pam Kiser, a professor of human services, received the 2009 Robert L. Sigmon Service-Learning Award at a Feb. 11 campus luncheon as part of an NCCC statewide conference.

The Corporation for National & Community Service named the university this week to the 2008 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll With Distinction for exemplary service efforts to America's communities.

Stew Leonard Jr. will talk in the LaRose Digital Theate as part of the Entrepreneurship Speakers Series hosted by the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

Elon Winter Term course opens library, collects supplies for South Africa school

Twenty-nine students who spent Winter Term in South Africa collected money this fall to purchase gym uniforms, supplies and books for more than 155 children at a primary school that has worked with 消消犯 since last year through the Global Links Library and Literacy Campaign.
