Elon Law’s program is designed to lower the cost of legal education and prepare students for early entry into the job market. The nation’s first 2½ year standard J.D. program of study, providing a 86-credit curriculum, is strategically designed to maximize student learning and career success.
Financial Planning
¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ’s Office of Financial Planning is located on main campus. Administrators regularly visit Elon Law and are available to incoming students during Orientation week. Information about tuition payments and loan refunds is available here.
Merit-based Scholarships
Scholarships are made available through endowments and gifts provided by generous alumni, faculty, administrators, staff and friends of the law school. They are awarded based on academic abilities, potential for the study of law and other considerations. Scholarships are awarded to accepted applicants after a review of their admission files.
All accepted applicants are considered for scholarships. No separate application form is necessary to be considered for a merit-based or endowed scholarship. Each scholarship may be renewed for 2½ years of law school, provided that academic performance criteria detailed in award letters are met.
Presidential Scholars
The Presidential Scholarship honors a small number of admitted students who have demonstrated extraordinary academic achievement, exceptional character, commitment to service, and leadership. This scholarship recognizes entering students who demonstrate great promise to become leading contributors to the legal community or society as a whole.
Dean’s Scholars
Dean’s Scholars are selected based on academic achievement, demonstrated leadership ability, significant community service involvement and potential for success in law school and the legal profession. The scholarship is awarded to a select number of admitted applicants.
Fellows Programs
¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ selected for Elon Law’s Fellows Programs (Advocacy, Business, Leadership, Coverdell) receive additional scholarship funding during the academic year, a summer externship experience funded by a scholarship, as well as special programmatic opportunities. Federal Student Aid
Many students borrow funds to finance their legal education. To be eligible for Subsidized and Unsubsidized Federal Direct Loans, applicants must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Elon’s federal school code is 002927. Applicants should complete the FAFSA as soon as possible after October 1. Satisfactory Academic Progress Requirements
Federal regulations require ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ to monitor whether graduate students are making Satisfactory Academic Progress (SAP) towards completing their degrees to remain eligible for Title IV financial aid.
To meet SAP requirements, students must:
- Maintain a minimum cumulative grade point average (GPA)
- Complete the required number of credit hours each year (attempted vs earned)
- Finish their degree within a maximum time frame of 150% of credits required for their program
- All graduate programs SAP will be evaluated on an annual basis at the end of each program’s academic year. Listed below are each individual program and its requirements for SAP.

- ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ must complete 67% of attempted versus earned coursework each year
- Maximum time frame for students to receive federal financial aid is 129 attempted credit hours
- Maintain a cumulative GPA of 2.00
¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ School of Law Charlotte (Part-Time) Flex Program
- ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ must complete 67% of attempted versus earned coursework each year
- Maximum time frame for students to receive federal financial aid is 129 attempted credit hours
- Maintain a cumulative GPAÂ 2.00
SAP Appeals Process
A student who becomes ineligible for Title IV assistance at the end of an academic year may appeal the determination if the student believes there were extraordinary circumstances that prohibited them from achieving SAP. A letter of appeal should be submitted by the student to the Office of Financial Aid, and the Appeals Committee will review. Appeals should outline in detail why the student is not making SAP.
The letter should address the following:
Mitigating circumstances that prevented the student from meeting the requirements of academic progress (e.g., death in the family, student illness or injury, other personal circumstances). Mitigating circumstances do not include withdrawing from classes to avoid failing grades, pursuing a second degree, etc. You must attach documentation of your circumstances to your letter of appeal. If none is available your appeal will be deemed incomplete.
Steps the student has taken/will take to ensure future academic success. This plan should outline the students’ academic goals for each period (e.g., number of credit hours and/or cumulative GPA) that will enable the student to meet the requirements of satisfactory academic progress at a specified future point in time. We encourage students to meet with their academic advisor to establish an academic plan and to ensure it is feasible to make satisfactory academic progress.
The appeal will be reviewed by a committee convened by the Office of Financial Aid and the appropriate members of the students’ academic program. The committee shall review the students’ progress considering any extenuating circumstances and make a determination. The written decision will be placed in the student’s financial aid record, and the student will be notified by email.
If the SAP appeal is approved, financial aid will be awarded for next year. If the SAP appeal is denied the student is no longer eligible for federal financial aid.
