Women’s Law Association holds 3rd annual 5K run for women’s health

On Saturday, March 12, Elon Law's Women's Law Association (WLA) held its third annual Barbara Sullivan Race for Women's Health. Each year, WLA holds this race to raise awareness for issues affecting women's health and to raise money for organizations that fund research for those issues.

On March 9, Dr. Linda Morris, former Chief of Staff of the Martinsburg VA Medical Center, discussed innovations in health care and legal issues within the health care industry with Elon Law students. The roundtable was led by Samantha Gillman, '11, and Phillip Clontz, '12, both externing with the Office of Veterans' Affairs Regional Legal Counsel in Winston-Salem, NC.

Elon Law professor of legal education Marty Peters presented at the second Asian Mediation Association Conference, held Feb. 24 and 25 in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. The conference covered topics in mediation related to employment law and family law among other topics.
Outlaw hosts Rebecca Perry for seminar on same sex partnership agreements

On March 8, the Elon Law student organization, Outlaw, held a seminar titled "The Importance of Same Sex Partnership Agreements in Light of Boseman." Family law attorney Rebecca Perry discussed Boseman v. Jarrell, a recent North Carolina case that decided whether an adoption decree granting the non-parent in a same sex relationship parental rights was valid after the relationship dissolved.

The featured guest at Elon Law's March 10 reception with the legal community was the Honorable V. Stuart Couch, appointed by U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder in October 2010 to serve as an Immigration Judge in the Charlotte Immigration Court.

The Business Journal of the Greater Triad Area selected three Elon graduates - Kristen Wither Yntema '95, Wade G. Jurney Jr. G'09 and Jeb Brooks L'10 - among its 2011 "40 Leaders Under Forty." They were honored at a Feb. 17 event at the Embassy Suites in Greensboro, N.C., and were profiled in the Feb. 18 edition of the periodical.
