A letter from two Elon students to U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, in which they urge the Massachusetts senator to support legislation that funds the development of nuclear energy technology, is a finalist in a contest that will be judged April 8 by prominent former lawmakers at a Project Pericles conference in New York City.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ has been recognized for the fourth year in a row as a national leader in service-learning and civic engagement. The Corporation for National & Community Service named the university this week to the 2009 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll With Distinction for exemplary service efforts to America's communities.

Deborah Long has been recognized by the North Carolina College Personnel Association (NCCPA) with its Outstanding Service in Support of the Student Affairs Profession Award. Long is a professor of education, director of the Elon Academy and coordinator of civic engagement.

Eight Elon Academy students now have access to computers in their homes through the support of the Kramden Institute.

Three students from the Elon Academy, along with faculty members Deborah Long and Brooke Barnett, were featured guests on the Nov. 11 broadcast of "The State of Things" by National Public Radio affiliate WUNC in Chapel Hill. The interview could be heard live on 91.5 FM and is now online for listeners to access.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ has been named one of five recipients of the Washington Center’s inaugural Higher Education Civic Engagement Award, a new honor given by the national nonprofit organization in recognition of a commitment to service-learning and civic engagement on campus.

Darris Means, assistant director of the Elon Academy, presented two sessions on the Elon Academy at the American College Personnel Association's (ACPA) Annual Conference in Washington, D.C. The American College Personnel Association is is the leading comprehensive student affairs association that advances student affairs and engages students for a lifetime of learning and discovery.
