¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ has been recognized for the fifth year in a row as a national leader in service-learning and civic engagement. The Corporation for National & Community Service named the university this week to the 2010 President’s Higher Education Community Service Honor Roll for service efforts to America's communities

Three of North Carolina’s most influential voices in higher education gathered Wednesday, Feb. 9, for a panel discussion at a civic engagement conference on ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ’s campus. Their message was simple: state and federal lawmakers should preserve financial aid for students in the ongoing recession, and to stay competitive in a global economy, schools must widen access for those who want to pursue college degrees.

Elon grandparent Tony Duke Sr., GP ’08, ’09, couldn’t let a little snow slow him down. Nor could the snow stop a coterie of Elon Leadership Fellows from meeting March 2 with the longtime university supporter.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ junior Amber Mathis has received a Newman Civic Fellows Award from ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Compact, a national organization that aims to improve community life and to educate college students on civic and social responsibility. She is one of 135 students from 30 states to receive the award.

CELEBRATE! 2011 continued Thursday afternoon at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ with four student presentations on academic service-learning projects that involved community outreach over the past year.

Student Global AIDS Campaign, an Elon Volunteers! club and Elon's only HIV/AIDS awareness program, will meet this Tuesday, April 5, to discuss events and garner future interest. Events for the semester include a 2-mile run and a dinner.

An organization that helps universities across North Carolina develop an ethos of volunteerism and service among students has awarded Mary Morrison, director of the Kernodle Center for Service Learning and Community Engagement at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, its 2011 Civic Engagement Professional of the Year Award.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Kitchen at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, a community program to serve meals to those in need in Alamance County, opened for the first time on Tuesday when top university leaders prepared lasagna dishes during a special College Coffee in the 1889 Grill Room.

Alexa Darby, an assistant professor of psychology, will assume the role of academic coordinator for the Civic Engagement Scholars Program effective Jan. 1, 2011.

An organization that represents private colleges in North Carolina has awarded ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ a grant of nearly $15,000 to fund a summer program for students about to graduate from local high schools and who make up the inaugural class of the Elon Academy college access program.
