An $84,000 grant from the North Carolina Biotechnology Center is helping ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ purchase state-of-the-art equipment for processing DNA samples, a move that will accelerate and expand faculty and ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ science research that, until now, has relied on outside companies for processing.

Nancy Knowlton, a renowned expert on coral reefs, visits ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ this month as the 2008-2009 Voices of Discovery series continues with a talk on the impact of climate change on the planet's reef systems. Knowlton's lecture on Feb. 18 is free and open to the public starting at 7:30 p.m. in McCrary Theatre.

Brant Touchette, an associate professor of biology and environmental studies, was featured in a recent publication of Coastwatch. The article, "Research Grows Future Scientists," shows Touchette and his students in their study of the Black Needlerush, a species found in coastal estuaries and marshes.

Elon senior Sarah Babcock received the third annual North Carolina ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Compact Community Impact Student Award during the organization’s Nov. 8 conference at High Point University in High Point, N.C.
