The youngest scholars spoke on the habits of highly effective teenagers, while those a year older focused on how the Elon Academy has changed their lives. The eldest of the Elon Academy students who presented to classmates, parents and educators on Friday evening? They read from the first drafts of admissions essays that will be used this fall to apply for college educations many once thought were out of reach.

Forty-one percent of ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ alumni in the Class of 2011 had accepted a full-time position by the day they received their diplomas, the highest percentage in five years of students reporting employment at time of graduation, according to initial results from the Cap & Gown survey administered by the Office of Career Services to seniors prior to Commencement.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ President Leo M. Lambert was one of two people honored this month by the State University of New York at Geneseo Alumni Association for his commitment to the association, college and higher education.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ will revise its Teaching Fellows program following recent action by the North Carolina General Assembly to phase out funding for the North Carolina Teaching Fellows program. The new Elon fellows program will recruit outstanding students nationally as well as those from North Carolina who want to pursue careers in education.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ’s Alumni Field House has earned Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Gold certification from the U.S. Green Building Council, which awards the internationally recognized benchmark for design, construction and operation of high-performance, environmentally friendly buildings.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ's board of trustees has approved the naming of the residence halls in the Colonnades Neighborhood, as well as three buildings in Danieley Center. The new names honor former Elon presidents, trustees and alumni.

Family and friends of former Elon First Lady Verona Daniels Danieley ’49 celebrated her life Monday afternoon as hundreds of mourners filled Elon Community Church for a memorial service that honored a woman who “set the gold standard as a builder of community.”

Several major campus construction projects outlined in the Elon Commitment strategic plan are under way, with completion expected this summer on some work, while other projects are getting started. Following this spring’s construction bidding process, timelines for several projects have been established.

The Rev. Dr. Janet F. Fuller, who has dedicated her professional career to higher education ministry, most recently as chaplain for Hollins University in Roanoke, Va., has been selected to serve as the next chaplain at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ.

Verona Daniels Danieley, 87, a fixture of the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ community for decades as wife of president emeritus Dr. James Earl Danieley, died June 24 at Moses Cone Hospital in Greensboro, N.C., following a brief illness.
