For Elon students, opportunity often begins with someone they may never meet. For instance, a donor who believes in their potential.

That spirit of belief was on full display during Elon Day 2026, as alumni, parents, faculty, staff, students and friends came together for the university’s 13th annual day of giving. Over the course of 24 hours, supporters made 6,214 gifts raising a record-breaking $3.58 million, with each gift being an investment in the experiences that define an Elon education.

From scholarships that make college possible to funding for þ research, study abroad, athletics and student organizations, this year’s Elon Day touched 276 funds across campus. The breadth of support reflects a shared commitment to ensuring that every student has access to transformative opportunities.

“Yesterday, our community demonstrated once again what makes this university so extraordinary,” says President Connie Ledoux Book. “The success of Elon Day comes from the thousands of alumni, parents, students, faculty, staff and friends around the world who step up every year to participate, and each of their gifts is a powerful vote of confidence in the promise of Elon students.”

She adds, “I am deeply grateful to every person who participated and encouraged others to join them. Because of you, our students will learn more boldly, lead more courageously and serve more compassionately.”

Throughout the day, momentum grew as challenge and matching gifts encouraged participation and amplified impact. Leadership donors helped spark enthusiasm and inspire others to give, demonstrating how collective action can multiply opportunity. We extend special thanks to the following individuals for making these initiatives possible:

  • Trustee Kerrii Anderson ’79
  • Steve Anderson P’16
  • Trustee Toni Brown and Michael Brown P’20
  • Jonathan and Tina Winnick P’28
  • Joe and Lynette Zarrett P’27
  • Trustee Dave Porter and Jen Porter P’11 P’19
  • Trustee Bill Smith and Sue Smith
  • Katie Sherborne P’27
  • Liz and David Forgash P’28
  • Patrick and Laura Strickler P’28
  • Several anonymous Elon families

The celebration extended far beyond giving. þ gathered on campus for special events, faculty and staff joined in the festivities, and alumni across the country hosted regional gatherings. Social media lit up with maroon and gold pride, connecting the Elon community across time zones and continents.

Since its founding in 2014, Elon Day has grown into one of the university’s most meaningful traditions, generating more than $27.5 million through over 63,000 gifts in support of students. Each year builds on the last, reinforcing a culture of philanthropy that ensures Elon’s future remains strong.
For current students and those yet to arrive, the impact of Elon Day will be lasting — measured not only in dollars raised, but in doors opened, experiences enriched and dreams realized.

Elon celebrates successful Night Of The Phoenix /u/news/2025/09/10/elon-celebrates-successful-night-of-the-phoenix/ Wed, 10 Sep 2025 19:29:17 +0000 /u/news/?p=1027046 Elon Athletics celebrated another record-setting Night of the Phoenix on Friday, Sept. 5, as donors, alumni, parents and community members came together at Schar Center for the 18th annual event. The department’s premier fundraising initiative generated more than $644,000 in support of Elon student-athletes – a 23% increase from 2024 – and has now raised more than $4.3 million since its inception.

Night of the Phoenix has become the largest singular fundraising event for Elon Athletics, with proceeds directly supporting the Phoenix student-athlete experience. The 2025 event celebrated an outstanding 2024-25 season in which Elon programs captured five Coastal Athletic Association championships and Phoenix student-athletes earned three of the conference’s five top academic and leadership honors.

“Over nearly two decades, Night of the Phoenix has transformed into an incredible celebration of the Elon community’s commitment to our student-athletes,” Director of Athletics Jennifer Strawley said. “The generosity of our supporters helps fuel our pursuit of excellence and ensures that we can provide a world-class student-athlete experience. We’re proud of the championships, academic success, and leadership milestones our programs achieved this past year, and we’re equally grateful for, and inspired by the continued investment from our donors in the future of Elon Athletics.”

Night of the Phoenix is guided by the department’s recently unveiled strategic plan, Phoenix Rising, which prioritizes championship success, academic achievement and holistic student-athlete development.

Donors drive student success – impacting students like Liam Dupas ’26 /u/news/2025/07/24/donors-drive-student-success-impacting-students-like-liam-dupas-26/ Thu, 24 Jul 2025 14:33:40 +0000 /u/news/?p=1021576 Thousands of alumni, students, faculty, staff, families and friends made gifts from June 1, 2024 to May 31, 2025 to support Elon students – contributing to one of the university’s most successful fundraising years yet. Thanks to this generosity and engagement, Elon will continue to provide outstanding educational experiences and foster a vibrant, thriving campus community for our students for years to come.

Supporting scholarships and other campus priorities can be life-changing, just as it was for Liam Dupas ’26.

A filmmaker in the making

Liam Dupas '26
Liam Dupas ’26

Liam Dupas never imagined that a scholarship could unlock the path to his life’s calling, but receiving the Don Bolden School of Communications Dean’s Scholarship did just that.

“This scholarship didn’t just help me financially; it inspired me to work even harder toward my goals,” Liam reflects.

Growing up in a large Atlanta public high school of nearly 4,000 students, Liam’s passion for filmmaking ignited unexpectedly during his senior year when he enrolled in film class. He learned that filmmaking is so much more than just directors and actors; it’s a powerful tool for emotional connection and storytelling.

At Elon, that spark has grown. Immersed in hands-on learning and mentored by professors and others with real-world industry experience, Liam is thriving. One standout figure in his journey has been Director of Technology, Operations and Multimedia Projects Bryan Baker.

“He’s more than just a teacher to me – he’s an inspiration and a role model,” Liam explains. “Through his audio class, I learned how the sound industry operates and got to work with Avid Pro Tools, an industry-standard software.”

Liam’s time at Elon has shaped not just his skills, but also his identity. From tight-knit friendships to the beauty of the campus and the deep support from faculty, Elon has become, in his words, his “home away from home.”

“Elon has helped me grow academically, mentally, physically, spiritually, financially and socially,” he shares, “Because of this education, I’m working toward a future where I can give back — to my parents, my community and to Elon.”

The financial support from his scholarship has been a pivotal part of his ability to say “yes” to these experiences.

“This degree represents the culmination of years of hard work, the support of my family and friends, and most importantly, the generosity of donors. I know this is my ticket to a career in filmmaking — and I don’t take that for granted.”

As Liam enters his senior year, he has big goals. Following graduation, he hopes to work in commercial or freelance cinematography for a faith-based company – something fast-paced with quick production timelines that will make for lots of travel and impactful experiences.

“I hope to tell stories that leave an impact on viewers and continue to serve wherever the Lord takes me,” he says. “Thank you for believing in students like me. I’m committed to making the most of this opportunity, and I look forward to sharing the journey ahead.”

For donors who wonder whether their philanthropy makes a real difference, Liam is living proof. Your investment is not just funding education, it’s launching a new generation of storytellers who will move the world with their vision.

Liam’s story is one of many. þ across campus have similar stories of how donor generosity changed their lives.

In a year that saw Elon claim five conference titles—four of which were won over a remarkable four-week span—the Phoenix Club, Elon Athletics’ fundraising arm, generated more than $2.3 million in annual operating support. This milestone marked the first time in university history that Elon surpassed the $2 million threshold. In total, more than 2,500 donors—including alumni, parents and friends of þ—contributed nearly $6 million in support across the department. These contributions made a lasting impact through unrestricted funds, sport-specific initiatives, capital projects and endowments.

The new fundraising strategy introduced during the 2024–25 academic year led to a 65% increase in operating support, a 52% increase in total cash received and a 34% increase in overall fundraising production.

“As the landscape of college athletics continues to evolve, we adjusted our fundraising approach to create an environment that better enables our donors to support the areas of our department that align most closely with their philanthropic passions,” said Elon Director of Athletics Jennifer Strawley. “This new strategy, combined with the incredible enthusiasm of our athletics community in supporting our student-athletes, has positioned us for long-term success.”

Funding scholarships and the many designations on campus can truly change lives, just like it did for Megan Liebig ’24. Read more about her story below and the impact that donor generosity had on her four years at Elon.

Preparing for a new academic year offers an opportunity to reflect on the accomplishments made possible through the incredible support of university partners, advocates and investors. See below for some of the highlights of the 2023-24 fiscal year:

Partners for Elon’s legacy

Investors in Elon’s future

Donor support continues to make all the difference in the lives of Elon students, ensuring they have access to opportunities that allow them to become graduates the world needs. Through donor support, students pursue research, internships, study abroad, involvement in organizations, compete in competitions and pursue their passions. These donations propel students to achieve their dreams.

This funding will continue to impact students for years to come, and Elon is proud to announce the many ways in which donors invested in the university this past year:

  • Alumni gave a total of $3.5 million to various designations across campus.
  • 6,198 alumni made gifts last fiscal year. All of these gifts will collectively fund student scholarships and experiences for many years.
  • Over 245 funds were impacted through donations. This means that funds across campus are widely supported. Whether it’s the Martha & Spencer Love School of Business, the arts, the School of Communications, Greek life, the CREDE, , a student organization, the Truitt Center or something else entirely – donor gifts will touch every part of campus!
  • Parents and grandparents gave a total of $5 million to various designations throughout the fiscal year, with 4,383 parents and grandparents making gifts.
  • $2.8 million of the fiscal year totals from alumni and families went to directly support Elon’s Greatest Needs, the fund that immediately helps with scholarships, programs and service learning, academic departments and faculty development – all to benefit students wherever it is needed most.
  • 60% of faculty and staff made a gift to the university, with 932 individuals supporting students. In total, faculty and staff donated $383,264.
  • On Elon Day 2024, more than 2,800 alumni gave and 1,289 parents and grandparents gave, helping raise $2.6 million for students.

Megan Liebig ’24 poses for a photo with her poster about her breast cancer research.

Megan Liebig ’24 is just one of the many seniors who graduated in May who knows the incredible impact of donor gifts. Originally from Durham, North Carolina, Liebig came to Elon with the help of the Glen Raven Mills Scholarship.

“Growing up, I had a pink scrapbook full of my college dreams. Pictures of campuses and course descriptions filled the pages as I dreamed of participating in my own scientific experiments and research,” said Liebig.

Looking back at her four years at Elon, she is proud that she has lived out her dream with some of that financial burden lifted off of her family’s shoulders thanks to donor generosity.

While at Elon, Liebig pursued breast cancer research because of her family’s history with this type of cancer. After four years of hard work, she proudly walked across the stage to receive her bachelor of science degree in biochemistry. She’s grateful that her research doesn’t end there though – thanks to her scholarship, which eased her financial burden for her þ degree, Liebig is now able to continue this research as she pursues her Ph.D. in biochemistry at Virginia Commonwealth University this fall.

“With four generations of breast cancer in my family, I am so excited to continue this research in hopes that it will have a positive impact on the future,” Liebig said. “Thank you so much donors, truly!”

Her story is just one of many. þ all across campus have similar stories of how donor generosity changed their lives. Thank you, donors, for making stories like this one possible.

Four alumni named co-chairs of Elon LEADS Campaign /u/news/2021/10/22/four-alumni-named-co-chairs-of-elon-leads-campaign/ Fri, 22 Oct 2021 17:22:38 +0000 /u/news/?p=885626 President Connie Ledoux Book announced alumni Priscilla Awkard ’95, Christian Wiggins ’03, Maity Interiano ’07 and Jack McMackin ’08 as the new co-chairs of the Elon LEADS Campaign, sending a powerful message about the importance of alumni leading Elon’s future.

The co-chairs, who are among Elon’s most engaged and generous alumni, were announced October 22 at the fall meeting of the university’s Board of Trustees. They will lead the final year of the Elon LEADS Campaign, which will conclude on December 31, 2022. They succeed Elon trustee and parent Dave Porter P’11 P’19, of Boston, and Elon alumnus, trustee and parent Chris Martin ’78 P’13, of Tinton Falls, New Jersey, who chaired the first and second year, respectively, of the campaign’s public phase, which began in spring 2019.

“The Elon LEADS Campaign has had strong, steady leadership from the beginning, and that tradition continues with Priscilla Awkard, Christian Wiggins, Maity Interiano and Jack McMackin, who represent the next generation of alumni leaders,” said President Connie Ledoux Book. “The Elon community is grateful to Dave Porter and Chris Martin for their loyalty and outstanding service.”

Book also thanked Elon parents Joan Doherty P’07 and Ed Doherty P’07, former chair of Elon’s Board of Trustees, and Trustee Allen Gant, Jr., for their leadership of the campaign during its planning phase.

Priscilla Awkard ’95

Priscilla Awkard ’95 of Raleigh, North Carolina, has served in many leadership roles as an alumna, including as a member of Elon’s Phi Kappa Phi Honor Society, the President’s Black Life Advisory Council, the Elon Black Alumni Network, Phoenix Club Advisory Board and the Raleigh Regional Campaign Committee. A standout volleyball player, Awkard is also a member of the university’s Sports Hall of Fame and received the Eugene Perry ’69 Distinguished Alumni Award in 2011 and Distinguished Service to Elon Award in 2020.

“I am honored and humbled to be asked to be one of the co-chairs of the Elon LEADS Campaign,” Awkard said. “It shows me that Elon trusts me to be a part of a monumental time in the history of Elon, and they know I only want what’s best for Elon.”

Awkard received a volleyball scholarship to attend Elon and credits her alma mater with preparing her to succeed, which inspires her to support Elon LEADS each year. She has also placed Elon in her estate plan with a generous gift to support the volleyball program and Black Alumni Scholarship, which she helped endow.

“I feel an obligation to give back to the place that helped develop me into the leader I am today,” said Awkard, Vice President, Teller Center, at Coastal Credit Union in Raleigh. “I’m so proud of what Elon LEADS has been able to do. The dedication and commitment of all those who have given is evident as this is the most money raised in Elon’s history.”

As of mid-October, donors had contributed $228 million toward the campaign’s historic $250 million goal.

Christian Wiggins ’03

Christian Wiggins ’03, CEO of FarmHouse International Fraternity in Kansas City, has given more than a decade of service to Elon, serving on the Elon Alumni Board and Charlotte Alumni Chapter and as a founding member of the Young Alumni Council. He has generously contributed to Elon’s Greatest Needs, Phoenix Club and Gender and LGBTQIA Center, along with The Inn at Elon.

As a first-generation college student, Wiggins knows firsthand the challenges many students face affording higher education and the power of scholarships to transform lives. In May, he made a second estate gift to support the Louise Amburn Memorial Scholarship at Elon, which he endowed to honor his great aunt and will assist low-income students from his hometown of western North Carolina. Increasing scholarship funding through endowment and annual gifts is the top priority of Elon LEADS.

“Elon punches above its weight class in terms of what we’re able to deliver with top national rankings and student success with the endowment resources we have,” Wiggins said. “Elon LEADS seeks to change that and to try and level the playing field with our peer and aspirant schools.”

Maity Interiano ’07

Maity Interiano ’07, an Emmy Award-winning journalist and on-air talent at Univision Network in Miami, attributes her success to Elon’s national leadership in engaged learning and to mentors in the School of Communications who helped guide her development as a journalist.

“I support Elon LEADS because I understand that the professional I’ve become started off with the education I received at Elon, and everything I’ve accomplished so far goes hand in hand with my Elon experience,” she said.

Interiano is a loyal donor to Elon’s Greatest Needs, the Latinx/Hispanic Alumni Network, Phoenix Club and School of Communications. She received Elon’s Top 10 Under 10 Award in 2012, delivered Elon’s Commencement address in 2017 and is a member of the President’s Young Leaders Council.

“Our generation has a chance to give back to a school that has given so much to each one of us,” Interiano said. “It’s our time to step up and make a difference for Elon’s future.”

Jack McMackin ’08

Jack McMackin ’08 is a member of the President’s Young Leaders Council and co-chaired the New York Regional Campaign Committee in 2019.

“This is an extraordinary time to be involved with Elon as it grows,” said McMackin, founder and managing director of Mission Innovation Network, a venture capital firm in South Bend, Indiana. “I’ve seen the progress Elon has made since I graduated while also staying true to its core identity, and that inspired me to be involved in the Elon LEADS Campaign.”

McMackin’s study abroad and internship experiences were pivotal to his growth as a student, which is why he makes annual gifts to the McMackin Family Scholarship for International Study, which he and parents Jack and Kathleen McMackin P’08 endowed in 2006.

McMackin encouraged all alumni to support Elon LEADS, adding, “As alumni, we now have the opportunity to act on our shared love of Elon and lift the university to even greater heights, supporting the next generation of leaders the world needs.”

About the Elon LEADS Campaign

With a $250 million goal, Elon LEADS is the largest campaign in the university’s history and will support four main funding priorities: scholarships for graduates the world needs, access to engaged learning opportunities such as study abroad, research and internships, support for faculty and staff mentors who matter and Elon’s iconic campus. As of mid-October, donors had contributed $228 million toward the goal.

Every gift to the university—including annual, endowment, capital, estate and other planned gifts—for any designation counts as a gift to the campaign, which will support students and strengthen Elon for generations to come. Visit to learn how you can make an impact with your gift.

Donors grow opportunities on Elon Day 2021 /u/news/2021/03/03/donors-grow-opportunities-on-elon-day-2021/ Wed, 03 Mar 2021 22:12:49 +0000 /u/news/?p=851594 Elon Day is always special but this year, in particular, was a testament to the Elon community and its dedication to creating life-changing opportunities for students.

“It’s hard to believe all that we’ve experienced this past year. Our daily lives challenged the ways we teach and learn – we’ve had to adjust the ways we engage at work and in our communities. However, what hasn’t changed is the passion of our community to support the power of an Elon education to make our world a better place,” says President Connie Ledoux Book in a special  to the Elon community.

On Tuesday, March 2, thousands of people around the world helped grow opportunities for Elon students. Together, the Elon community raised over $3.4 million from 5,609 gifts.

Elon Day donors unlocked numerous opportunities for Elon students and the community by completing and participating in matches and challenges throughout the day.

As always, Elon donors were able to make a direct impact on the areas of campus that mean the most to them. These donors made gifts to 176 campus funds including scholarships, student organizations, athletics, affinity networks, schools and programs.

Elon Day gifts of any size, to any area or program, also count toward Elon LEADS: Our University Campaign.

Friends, Fans and the Whole Elon Community

On Tuesday, March 2, the global Elon community can participate in a daylong celebration by sharing their Elon spirit on social media and making a gift to the area of campus that means the most to them.

As in years past, donors will be able to make gifts toward specific areas of campus that mean the most to them. These areas include student scholarships, affinity networks (Elon Black Alumni Network, Elon Jewish Alumni Network, Elon Latinx/Hispanic Alumni Network and the LGBTQIA Alumni Network), academic schools and departments, and the Phoenix Club (Elon Athletics). For those wanting to make a difference in the Alamance County community, consider making a gift to the Elon Academy, part of the Center for Access and Success. All Elon Day gifts will also count toward the Elon LEADS Campaign.

Make sure to follow @elonuniversity on , and for exciting news and updates, and don’t forget to download our special Elon Day digital swag package to celebrate throughout the day.

Elon Day officially began in 2014 as part of the university’s 125th anniversary celebration. Since then, Elon Day’s momentum and impact have grown year after year. Last year donors made history with 6,376 gifts totaling more than $2.3 million. Donors were able to make gifts toward specific areas of campus that mean the most to them, including areas such as student scholarships, academic schools and departments, and the Phoenix Club (Elon Athletics), among other causes. Elon Day gifts of all sizes and designations will count toward this year’s total, and, for the first time ever, donors will be able to use Venmo (@ElonGiving) in addition to the Elon Day website to make their gifts.
