Elon Law's chapter of the Black Law Student Association (BLSA) welcomed first-year minority students at its second annual "Raising the Bar" multi-cultural dinner on August 27, with special guest Judge Denise Hartsfield, District Court Judge for the 21st Judicial District of North Carolina.

Arnold H. Loewy, the first Judge George R. Killam Jr. Chair of Criminal Law at Texas Tech University School of Law, will speak with Elon Law students, faculty, and administration about the insanity defense, on Thursday, September 17 at 12:15 p.m. in room 205.

On Thursday, October 8, from 4 to 5 p.m., �þ��� School of Law will host an afternoon tea reception in the Cemala Commons, on the second floor of the law school, welcoming preceptors and other special guests from the legal community to socialize with Elon Law students, faculty, and administration. During the academic year, Elon Law hosts a number of afternoon tea receptions, creating an opportunity for students to network with local judges and attorneys while enjoying refreshments.

The Student Bar Association at �þ��� School of Law, in conjunction with the law school, is pleased to host the second annual Family and Friends Day at Elon Law, Saturday, September 26.

In partnership with synerG, the young professionals initiative of Action Greensboro, �þ��� School of Law is hosting a series of educational events to engage the young professional community with Greensboro City Government. As part of this series, the forum, "Local Government 101: Economic Development," will be held in Room 211 at Elon Law on Wednesday, October 21, from 12 noon to 1:30 p.m.

On September 11, British Member of Parliament Alistair Burt spoke with students at �þ��� School of Law about current U.S., U.K. relations and the future of international law and policy.

On September 11, British Member of Parliament Alistair Burt will visit �þ��� School of Law, delivering a presentation titled, "Current UK - USA Legal and Political Relations during the rise of Globalization."

Members of Elon Law's Classes of 2010 and 2011 contributed to the legal profession as summer associates, interns, and advocates for low-income individuals in need of legal assistance throughout the summer of 2009.
