Detroit proved to be an eye-opener for three �þ��� School of Communications students, who participated in the Journalism That Matters Create or Die unconference June 3-6.

An effort conceived by �þ��� associate professor Michelle Ferrier to reinvent journalism’s role in the nation's underserved communities, by seeding entrepreneurial media and technology ventures, will bring together this week several dozen leading media entrepreneurs and observers to an "idea summit" at Wayne State University in Detroit.

Associate professor Frances Ward-Johnson has been named the new associate department chair in the School of Communications. Ward-Johnson's appointment was made by Dean Paul Parsons and new Department Chair Jessica Gisclair. Ward-Johnson succeeds Gisclair in the role.

�þ��� in Elon's Interactive Media master's program showed off the work they've done this semester in their capstone courses at the Interactive Media Exhibition May 19 on the second floor of Powell.

Sang Nam, an assistant professor in the School of Communications, delivered the keynote address at the Dream Tree Festival in Los Angeles May 8.

Interactive Media master's students Maria Rojas and Cathy Freeman were quoted in a WRAL.com story covering the WWW2010 conference in Raleigh, N.C. The Imagining the Internet Center at Elon sponsored FutureWeb, which ran jointly with WWW2010 at the Raleigh Convention Center.
