New research by an ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ alumna and her faculty mentor concludes that Nintendo’s Wii Fit benefits older people looking to improve and maintain balance, a key measure of fitness that both researchers say is often underappreciated by elders.

Drs. Eric Hall and Caroline Ketcham presented research at the 2010 Society for Neuroscience annual conference in San Diego November 13-17.

Researchers are looking for children (ages 11-12) to participate in a Department of Exercise Science research study examining the relationship between physical activity and cognition. Children will have the opportunity to play Xbox 360 and Xbox Kinect games.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ senior Drew Gardner travels to Washington, D.C., this week to share with lawmakers his research on concussions in student-athletes during the annual Posters on the Hill event sponsored by the Council on Undergraduate Research.

A team of ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ researchers will examine the effects of concussions in student-athletes using a grant of nearly $17,000 awarded this month by the American Medical Society for Sports Medicine.

Eleven Exercise Science majors and seven faculty from the Department of Exercise Science attended the 39th Annual Southeast American College of Sports Medicine meeting in Greenville, S.C., over the first weekend of February.
