Four ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ School of Communications alumni suggested students embrace freelance and part-time work as they begin the process of searching for jobs during a packed panel discussion attended by both ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ and graduate students Feb. 14.

Frances Ward-Johnson, associate department chair and associate professor in the School of Communications, will be a national judge for the Public Relations Society of America's Silver Anvil Awards competition, which recognizes outstanding strategic public relations programs at national and international companies.

Anthony Hatcher, associate professor of communications, attended a seminar for journalism educators at the Poynter Institute in St. Petersburg, Fla., Feb. 7-11. Hatcher was selected to attend a workshop called Teaching Multimedia Journalism. The workshop covered video and audio editing software, as well as media ethics.

Two ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ students had their original screenplays selected to be produced and filmed as part of the nationwide Sprite Refreshing Films™ contest, a program "that gives future moviemakers a chance to create real films with industry pros and celebrities." Eleven additional Elon students were also selected to serve as staff interns.

Hal Walker, department chair of Sport and Event Management, was recently invited to serve as a five-year external reviewer for Gardner-Webb University in Boiling Springs, N.C., for the Department of Physical Education, Wellness and Sport Studies.
