Meaghan Britain, a 2011 Strategic Communications graduate, is the recipient of a U.S. State Department scholarship to study, work and live in Germany for a year.

Innovators from across the country gathered June 2-5 at the University of North Carolina-Greensboro for a four-day journalism event hosted by Journalism That Matters and supported by �þ���’s School of Communications, the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership at �þ��� and UNC-Greensboro.

A team of �þ��� staff and graduate students led by Ross Wade, assistant director of Career Services in the School of Communications, won an Innovative Excellence Award on June 2 from the National Association of Colleges and Employers at the organization’s national conference in Dallas.

Melody van Lidth de Jeude, an instructor in the School of Communications who had taught public speaking to hundreds of �þ��� students since her arrival on campus four years ago, died May 27, 2011, following a brief illness.

Anthony Hatcher, associate professor of communications, published an online essay about the failure of witnesses to come forward after his recent car crash. The essay appeared on the Greensboro News & Record website.

School of Communications assistant professor Phillip Motley presented at the Association for Computing Machinery-International Collegiate Programming Contest May 28-29 in Orlando, Fla. Associate professor Amanda Sturgill was also in attendance to provide web-based coverage of the events.
