Elon services and programs in downtown Burlington, N.C., have boosted the local economy over the past three years by an estimated $8.1 million, earning an award this month from the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

Jean Rattigan-Rohr, associate professor and director of the Center of Access and Success, Ye He, an associate professor from the University of North Carolina at Greensboro, and Michele Meredith, from the East Queen Street Baptist Evening Institute, presented research at the Mixed Methods Research Caribbean Conference at the University of the West Indies in Kingston, Jamaica March 13.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ submitted a video to the White House regarding near-peer mentoring in the Center for Access and Success

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ's Watson & Odyssey Scholars Program and the Study USA office co-sponsored a "Fake Break" program in late January for students to visit with corporate foundation offices at Coca-Cola, Major League Baseball's Atlanta Braves, the International Rescue Committee and more.

The donation program intended to give back to student groups and university initiatives has assisted Stop Hunger Now, Habitat for Humanity, Kernodle Center programming, the "It Gets Better" initiative and the Elon Academy.

The second annual event hosted by the university's "It Takes a Village" Project featured talks, a poster presentation, and musical selections by children involved in a program aimed at helping youth overcome reading difficulties.

Gifts totaling more than $1.3 million from two estates will provide new scholarship support for students with disabilities and for those pursuing studies in music.

Elon Academy is participating in #GivingTuesday with 42 other local non-profits in Alamance County.

With more than 140 local children now involved in an ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ program that helps struggling readers, administrators sought a larger community space to bring families together with their college student tutors.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ in a fall semester Garden Studio course are leading an event that is free and open to the community from 2:30-5:30 p.m. with fall-themed baked goods, musical entertainment and pumpkin carving for children.
