Caroline DiFrango '23 won first place in the 2023 Philip L. Carret Thomas Jefferson Essay Contest. Foster Davis '23 placed second, Claire E. Lancaster '23 and Delaney Guidi '25 tied for third.

The event is sponsored by American Studies, the Office of Disability Resources, and a grant from the Elon College Fund for Excellence in the Arts and Sciences and will feature Elon archivist and librarian Libby Coyner, among other scholars and artists.

The contest, sponsored by the American Studies Program, asked students to address the legacy of Thomas Jefferson in relation to COVID-19 vaccinations.

The winners of the 23rd annual Carret Essay Contest will be announced on April 12.
