University leaders conferred degrees Sunday afternoon on 58 graduate students in the Doctor of Physical Therapy program, which for the first time hosted its Commencement ceremony in McCrary Theatre.

Teaching Fellows who traveled last spring to the Central American country created a resource to help future students who want to study abroad in a nation known for its natural beauty, as well as its rapid social, economic and environmental changes.

Graduate students in ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ’s Physician Assistant Studies program learned Tuesday from faculty and staff across campus how to create meaningful relationships with underserved and vulnerable populations.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ address and approach poverty issues through service-learning projects with two local organizations: Sustainable Alamance and the United Way.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Alex Welgehausen, a first-year and flute student of Linda Cykert, and Nicole Hanrahan, a junior and clarinet student of Thomas Turanchik, presented a holiday concert on Sunday, Dec. 7 at Blakey Hall in Elon.

The university has been recognized as a national leader in service-learning and civic engagement, with the federal Corporation for National & Community Service commending Elon in four areas of service.
