American Red Cross needs volunteers

The American Red Cross is looking for 10-12 volunteers sometime in November to go in pairs to mobile home parks in Alamance (where they have already gotten permission) and leave flyers on the doors to promote fire safety. At least one of the students in the pair should have a car.

Help Serve Meal to Allied Churches

Dr. Becky Stevens is looking for two students who would like to help her serve a meal on Friday, October 7th, evening to Allied Churches. They would need to meet her by the parrish house of Elon Community Church at 5pm on Friday and will serve until 7:30pm. Please email Dr. Stevens if you are interested in helping.

Disaster Volunteers Needed

The Burlington American Red Cross needs volunteers to help staff Disaster Shelters when opened. The volunteers are needed after 4:30 on weekdays, weekends and other flexible times when a disaster strikes. To volunteer for Disaster Services you must have completed the classes (it takes between 1-4 hours for a class).

Vocational Trades need 1-3 volunteers to help with computer training class, office operations, activities for adults with disabilities, class development, social development, community employment and coaching, and the Web site.

Family Abuse Services needs Volunteers

Family Abuse Services needs 2 volunteers to help unwrap 2004 Christmas Donations that they have recieved. The volunteers are needed for about 6 hours (spread between several days) at the FAS office.

Family Abuse Services also needs 4 or 5 volunteers at their thrift store. The volunteers will be organizing the donation area at the store – heavy lifting will be required. The volunteers will be needed for about 10 hours (spread out over several days).

New Contact Email for Open Door Clinic

This volunteer opportunity was posted earlier this week, but the email address for the contact has changed. Please make a note of this.

The Open Door Clinic of Alamance County needs volunteers to help with office hours. The volunteers will need to cover phones, work the front desk, and work on some light clerical duties. Volunteers are needed Monday, Wednesday, and Friday from 830-12:30. If you are only able to volunteer for part of the time, then the clinic will work with your schedule.

Volunteer to Help Fix a Porch

A few volunteers are needed to help fix a man’s front porch. The man lives in a trailer in Graham and requires a walker to get around. The man’s front porch is rotting and this is very dangerous. He lives in low-income housing and cannot afford to pay someone to fix the porch. He needs your help.

Tutor a High School Student

The Dispute Settlement Services is asking for a volunteer to tutor a high school student in math. The boy attends Cummings High School in the 9th grade and he needs help in Algebra 1. DSS would love for the tutor to be a male student so they could also serve as a role model to the boy. This boy needs help, so he does not follow other students and drop out of school.
