The event, titled 54 Days, will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 28 at 6 p.m. in Turner Theater.

At 40 years old, Moran attended the Nova Music Festival, when her world was shattered by the Hamas attack on Oct. 7. She was abducted and held captive in Gaza for 54 days. Now free, Moran travels the world sharing her extraordinary story of survival, faith and the human capacity for hope even in the darkest moments.

Her message is not only about what she endured, but about the light she chose to hold onto, and the strength she found in her identity, her family and her faith.

This event is presented by Chabad at 消消犯, in partnership with StandWithUs, Hillel at 消消犯, Israel on 消消犯 Coalition and ZOA 消消犯.

The evening is free and open to the university community. All are welcome to hear Morans remarkable firsthand testimony, a story that reminds us of the power of resilience and the unbreakable spirit of the human soul.

Oct. 7 hero to visit Elon on US speaking tour /u/news/2024/11/12/oct-7-hero-to-visit-elon-on-us-speaking-tour/ Tue, 12 Nov 2024 13:44:22 +0000 /u/news/?p=1000933 Until Oct. 7, Rami Davidian was an anonymous farmer living in Israel’s south, not far from the site of the now-famous Nova Music Festival.

When rockets and bullets started flying, a friend reached out, asking Rami to rescue their child from the unfolding inferno. Over the ensuing hours, Davidian, flanked by his son-in-law, came face-to-face with terrorists and rescued hundreds of young partygoers from certain death, under heavy fire.

In the year since his bravery has been recognized, and Davidian has been awarded numerous prizes and showered with accolades from his home country of Israel and from people around the globe.

Davidian will share his story of bravery, faith and humanity at 消消犯’s Whitley Auditorium on Monday, Nov. 18 at 7:30 p.m. He will be accompanied by Millet Ben Haim, a young woman whose life he saved that day.

The event is being hosted by Elon’s Chabad Jewish Center in partnership with multiple other organizations including Elon Hillel, and Elon Jewish Life.

In normal times, he is an insurance sales agent and a physical trainer, but on Oct. 7, he found himself fighting for his life.

El-Hai escaped the Nova massacre in Israel with two of his friends and under heavy gunfire, the group managed to find relative safety in a nearby greenhouse.

After hours of hiding with no water or food, and with gunfire still ringing loudly, they had to make a decision one that would spell the difference between life and death.

El-Hai will be visiting Elon on Feb. 7, exactly four months since that fateful day, to share his story of resilience and strength with the community.

The event is made possible by Chabad at Elon.

“We are very excited to have Rom visit and share his experience with us! We are very grateful to have this opportunity,” said Rabbi Mendy Minkowitz.

Security will be present to ensure the smooth progression of the event.

The event was a huge success, with 150 women in attendance, from across Greek life and beyond. The event featured a live performance by Elon students, a lavish kosher sushi spread, free swag and an opportunity for participants to learn the art of making challah, a traditional Jewish bread.

The Mega Challah Bake, which celebrates the Jewish woman, began with a brief introduction to the significance of challah in Jewish culture, and participants were then given the opportunity to make their own challah dough from scratch and braid their own loaves to take home.

“We were thrilled to see so many people come out for this year’s Mega Challah Bake,” said Rivka Minkowitz, one of the organizers of the event. “The live performance by Elon students added a wonderful element to the evening, and the kosher sushi spread was a delicious addition to the event.”

The event, featuring refreshments and a raffle, was dedicated to the memory of the late Barbara Sklut, a proud Elon grandparent who loved baking.

“The Mega Challah Bake is a wonderful opportunity for women to come together and connect through a shared experience,” said Elana Selman 23, co-president of Chabad. “It’s an empowering experience to make your own challah, and the event creates a sense of community and connection among participants.”

The event also marked the Jewish year of Hakhel, or gathering, which is celebrated through gatherings and sharing words of inspiration.

In a world that so desperately needs extra light and love, Chabad and Panhellenic are joining together to spread just that!

Women from every sorority and beyond Greek Life will be coming together at this incredible event, discovering the timeless tradition of Challah baking.

The event will feature a Challah baking party, games, videos and delicious food.

Each participant will bake two Challahs one to keep for herself, and one to give away to someone in need of extra love and care.

Taking place during Women’s History month, it will be a celebration of the Jewish Woman and their immense contributions to communal life.

The event has been dedicated to the memory of the late Mrs. Barbara Sklut, Chana Brachas bat Aryeh Zev, OBM.

I am so excited to see Panhellenic and Chabad partner. They both provide me a home away from home and I think many Jewish Panhellenic women would agree. And who doesn’t love Challah? said Corinne Brager, president of the Panhellenic Council and a member of Chabad.

Baking Challah is an age-old tradition going all the way back to the Matriarch Sarah, said Rivka Minkowitz, co-director of Chabad Elon. This is a terrific way to join together with young women from all walks of life and share a common purpose of spreading love.

Holocaust survivor Nathan Spiewak will speak to the Elon community /u/news/2022/03/02/holocaust-survivor-nathan-spiewak-will-speak-to-the-elon-community/ Wed, 02 Mar 2022 15:51:22 +0000 /u/news/?p=902076 Nathan Spiewak was a child when the Nazis invaded and occupied France.Not long thereafter, roundups of French Jews began, and he and his family were interned in the infamous Velodrome D’Hiver in dire and inhumane conditions.

After miraculously leaving the Vel D’Hiv, young Nathan was on the run fighting for his life.

Spiewak, a proud Elon grandparent of Adina Speak ’24, will be sharing his memories with the Elon community on March 30 at 5 p.m. in McKinnon Hall in the Moseley Center.
