They made it out of pool play and into the first round of playoffs. It was a tough loss to UNCC but overall Elon played well throughout the tournament.

They started off the game with 1 run in the first inning and kept that going with 6 runs in the 3 inning. Game 2 Elon rebounded and came out strong scoring 8 runs and holding UNC W to 1. Casey Gaynor started the scoring off for Elon in the 2 inning getting on base from a single and scored later off of an error by UNC Wilmington. Gaynor would finish the game going 3 for 3 with three singles, two runs scored, and an RBI on a sac fly. Michael Roberts played strong for Elon on the mound.

Women’s Club Soccer defeats Davidson, UNC to extend undefeated record /u/news/2015/11/03/womens-club-soccer-defeats-davidson-unc-to-extend-undefeated-record/ Tue, 03 Nov 2015 23:30:00 +0000 /u/news/2015/11/03/womens-club-soccer-defeats-davidson-unc-to-extend-undefeated-record/ Elon Women’s Club Soccer took on Davidson College on Oct. 18. Both teams battled in the first half but forward Kate Helwick received a great cross from Sophia Dirocco and she scored the teams first goal.

In the second half, center midfielder Mikayla Shaw sent a beautiful ball to Helwick who again scored, giving Elon a 2-0 lead. Davidson fought back hard but Elon’s defense was strong and the game ended with Elon winning 2-0.

Elon then took on UNC-Chapel Hill on Oct. 25. This was a hard-fought game with both teams playing well. Early in the first half midfielder, Alley Phillips sent a pass up the line to forward Kat Black, who scored giving Elon an early 1-0 lead. UNC fought back but Elon held off the Tar Heels for a 1-0 victory, which added to their undefeated record of 2-0-3.

The first game was on October 14 against High Point. This was a hard fought game but in the end junior Harris Tolber scored on a free kick with 10 minutes remaining to secure the 2-1 win.

A few days later Elon took on Davidson hoping to continue its comeback streak. Ryan Keeney and Ryan Ahrens each netted a goal. Senior Carlos Salas scored two goals to give Elon a 4-0 victory.

The last game played was against Wake forest and this was the most important. Elon had to win this game in order to get a regional bid. Knowing this, Elon came out firing scoring early in the game. Goalkeeper Andrew Lydecker scored his first goal ever on a penalty kick. Other contributors include Konner Kendall and Nate Cohen scoring their first goals as well.

In the end the final score was 8-1 and Elon clinched a spot at regionals.

Men’s Club Baseball competes against Duke, William & Mary /u/news/2015/11/03/mens-club-baseball-competes-against-duke-william-mary/ Tue, 03 Nov 2015 23:25:00 +0000 /u/news/2015/11/03/mens-club-baseball-competes-against-duke-william-mary/ Elon’s Club Baseball team took on Duke on Oct. 16 when Alexander Day had a great game behind the plate, leading off the game with a triple in the first inning that helped Elon with an impressive 8-run rally en route to a 19-0 victory. Day finished the game with that triple, 3 RBIs and a run scored. Sam Bonifant was on the mound to start the game. He started the game off strong with 3 scoreless innings and 4 strikeouts.

On Oct. 18, Elon played a double header against William & Mary. The first game went to extra innings and Elon was down by 2 before Sean Tamayo had an RBI double and Robert Nanna had a RBI single to lead to a 3-3 tie.

The next game Elon’s Nathan Calem had two RBIs to give Elon runs; however, William & Mary had a 6-run fourth inning that lead to an 8-5 Elon defeat.

Men’s Club Rugby takes down Western Carolina 42-19 /u/news/2015/11/03/mens-club-rugby-takes-down-western-carolina-42-19/ Tue, 03 Nov 2015 23:25:00 +0000 /u/news/2015/11/03/mens-club-rugby-takes-down-western-carolina-42-19/ Elon Men’s Club Rugby traveled to Western Carolina University on Oct. 25 for a match the team would win 42-19.

The match began with a strong first half by Elon. Justin Snavely and Matthew Conklin each had a try. Billy Kelly had 2 trys as well, which gave Elon a 28-0 lead going into halftime. In the second half Sean Murphy added two trys to secure Elon the win. Pat Keneally was 5-for-5 on conversions and Ian Furman was 1-for-1. Atticus was named Man of the Match for his powerful presence on defense. Elon won the match 42-19.

Women’s Club Lacrosse wins championship of Yosef Classic Tournament /u/news/2015/11/03/womens-club-lacrosse-wins-championship-of-yosef-classic-tournament/ Tue, 03 Nov 2015 23:20:00 +0000 /u/news/2015/11/03/womens-club-lacrosse-wins-championship-of-yosef-classic-tournament/ Elon Women’s Club Lacrosse came into the Yosef Classic Tournament losing the first game to ECU 10-9. They came back strong in the second game against UNCC with a 17-6 win.

The team continued to win 6-3 and then 6-2 both against ASU. Those wins brought them to the championship game vs. ECU. Elon’s women fought strong against a tough opponent but were still down 10-9 with one minute left. The attack and midfielders worked together to put one more goal in the back of the net to tie.

Elon’s defense then proved strong enough to stop ECU from scoring, which led to a brave heart overtime. This is where one player from each team goes against each other and the first to score wins. Meghan Dyer was selected as Elon’s one player. She won the draw and sprinted to the cage. She shot and scored the winning goal. Elon was the champions of the tournament, leaving with a record of 4-1.

Elon over came a lot of penalties and played really well defensively. Senior Sean Murphy was all over the field, leading the team in tackles and winning the Co-Man of the Match. Again, Senior Quinn Hefferon won Co-Man of the Match scoring two trys and converting a couple penalties to lead the team to victory. Even though Quinn and Sean led the team it was a team victory with Captains Billy Kelly and Atticus Grinder leading the way. Matt Klauder, Patrick Keneally, and John Rhodes all played a big part in the victory as well.
