“Invisible: Slavery Today” educational exhibit on contemporary slavery opens Oct. 22

“Invisible: Slavery Today,” presenting information about contemporary global slavery, will be on the �þ�� campus Wednesday, Oct. 22, through Thursday, Nov. 6, in Ward Octagon in Moseley Center.

We invite classes, organizations, individuals and other groups to visit the exhibit. Hours are 8:30 a.m. – 8:30 p.m. Monday-Friday and 12-5 p.m. on Saturdays and Sundays, October 22-November 6, 2008.

Habitat for Humanity seeking volunteers for Grand Opening of ReStore Aug. 2

Habitat for Humanity of Alamance County is looking for volunteers to help with the Grand Opening of the Habitat ReStore at its new location on Saturday, Aug. 2, from 11am – 2pm.

The ReStore just moved to a new larger facility and is holding a day of Carnival fun, music and free food to celebrate its growth. Volunteers are needed to help with games for the kids and guest relations.

Volunteers needed for June 21 painting project at McLeansville Elementary

Teachers and administration at McLeansville Elementary are giving their school hallways a makeover. Since the school reopened in 2005-2006, the walls have been a dull beige but they want to liven things up! Volunteers are needed Saturday, June 21, to help paint. The project will begin at 8am and go for as long as there are willing volunteers.

Jobs available at community agencies for Federal Work Study students

If you have federal work study, you can apply for a job at a non-profit agency in the community. A listing of the
community federal work study job descriptions is available from the
Kernodle Center. These job opportunities are an excellent way to be involved in the community while still earning money for school.

Several new agencies are advertising for student workers. Pay scales range from $7-10 per hour, and some evening and weekend hours are available, depending on the agency. Current agencies include American Red Cross, Boys and Girls Club, Burlington Housing Authority, Christian Adventures Youth ministry, Excel Christian Academy, McCauley Family Learning Center, Meals on Wheels, OE Enterprises, and Residential Treatment Services Thrift Store. Job responsibilities vary – office management, tutoring, occupational training, and transportation assistance.

HIV and STD prevention: educational training by Alamance Cares, April 11

Participate in a Train-the-Trainer program for HIV and STD prevention education. The training will be provided by Michelle White, Director of Alamance Cares.

An informational meeting will be offered at 4:30, in McEwen 11, this Wednesday, followed by an introduction and evaluation of the educational materials.

This is a great opportunity for students who are committed to public health initiatives and to helping educate other college students about how to prevent HIV and STDs. Help your friends protect themselves.
