¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ

The article shares findings from empirical research describing the morphology and calls of two previously undescribed katydid (insect) species in the Blue Ridge Mountains of North Carolina. The work was done by collaborators from UNC-Asheville, the College of Coastal Georgia and ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, and the article appears in the "Journal of Orthoptera Research."

The article shares an open access research tool for studying animal communication that was developed as part of Evora’s Elon Lumen project. The work was done by Evora, collaborators from the University of Missouri and Curtin University and Hamel. The article appears in a special issue of the journal Entomologia Experimentalis et Applicata.

The article shares findings from empirical research on insect communication that was conducted at the Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute at Barro Colorado Island in Panama. The work was done by collaborators from Dartmouth College, Muséum national d'Histoire naturelle, Xuzhou Medical University, Cornell University, and ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, and the article appears in the journal Integrative and Comparative Biology.

The chapter by Associate Professor of Biology Jen Hamel appears in the book "Exploring Animal Behavior Through Sound: Volume 1" that is published through Springer Publishing, and is intended for an upper-level ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ audience.

Biology majors Reb Carranza ’22 and Alana Evora ’23 presented their research at recent international conferences in animal behavior. Their mentor, biology faculty member Jen Hamel, presented research at one of the conferences and led an ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ mentoring program at the other.

Hamel and co-authors from the University of Florida published an empirical study on inter-and intraspecific mating in the current issue of the journal.

Hamel and Vandermast, together with co-authors from Dartmouth College and Grinnell College, published a study in the fall 2021 issue of Scholarship and Practice of Undergraduate Research, a peer-reviewed journal of the Council of Undergraduate Research.

Hamel and co-authors from the University of Florida published an empirical study in the current issue of the journal.

Sears and Hamel, an associate professor of biology, published an empirical study in a disciplinary, peer-reviewed journal.

Assistant Professor of Biology Jen Hamel and biology major and Elon College Fellow Alina Iwan ’19 presented research at Behaviour 2019, a joint meeting of the Animal Behavior Society and the International Conference on Ethology.
