The Department of Environmental Studies has created an additional major, and a new minor, for ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ students with an academic or career interest in the fields of sustainability, wildlife ecology and conservation.

Imploring students to follow “their heart’s desire” when deciding how to best advance their communities and country in the years ahead, venture capitalist and former NASA astronaut Dr. Bernard A. Harris Jr. shared stories from his career Wednesday in a ceremony to honor him as the second recipient of the ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Medal for Entrepreneurial Leadership.

Phi Eta Sigma, a national honor society for first-year students, welcomed its newest members from ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ on Oct. 25, 2010, in a McKinnon Hall ceremony to celebrate their academic achievement.

That’s the premise of a fictional lawsuit argued Oct. 15-17 in the 4th annual Carolina Classic Mock Trial Invitational at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, which brought to campus some of the biggest names in ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ mock trial competition, including Harvard, George Washington University and the University of Virginia.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ staff and students made presentations this month at the annual conference of the National Society for Experiential Education held in Charlotte, N.C.

Kathryn Wheet ’04 helps students receive a worldly education as an international programs advisor at Elon, but for two weeks in July, she brought the world home to children in her native Maryland as a volunteer with the nonprofit World Artists Experiences through a university service sabbatical with Project Pericles.

Darris Means '05, assistant director of the Elon Academy, recently earned the Love of Learning Award from the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi. The award helps fund graduate studies or career development opportunities for active members of Phi Kappa Phi.

As he explored the misconceptions that exist between the West and the Islamic world, Pervez Musharraf, the former president of Pakistan who was a key U.S. ally in its fight against the Taliban, shared his observations with students, faculty and the community on Tuesday afternoon as the keynote speaker for Fall Convocation inside Alumni Gym.
