พรพรศศ take part in L.A., NYC summer programs

Sixty-eight students representing several majors have been participating this summer in a domestic summer internship programs in both Los Angeles and New York. While in their respective cities, students take an academic course on Mondays and complete internships the rest of the week. The structures of the nine-week programs vary, but students receive the same general experience, as they live, take classes and do internships in a major American city.

Elon Academy students share ideas in philosophy conference

Scholars enrolled in Elon Academy philosophy courses this summer gathered July 13 for the first session of the inaugural Elon Academy Philosophy Conference, a two-day program in which students present final papers based on the conference’s theme – “Why Perspectives Matter” – and converse with classmates, mentors and the public.

Leigh Ann Stutts ’11 explores these challenges and exposes gaps in caregiver training – including the need to learn forgiveness – in a recent edition of the The Open Mind, the newsletter of the Durham, N.C., chapter of the National Alliance on Mental Illness.

Amy Allocco presents a paper at an international conference in Bhutan

Amy L. Allocco, an assistant professor in the Department of Religious Studies, presented a paper titled “Making Mountains out of Anthills at a South Indian Goddess Temple” at a conference organized around the theme “Mountains in the Religions of South and Southeast Asia: Place, Culture, and Power” in the capital city of Thimphu in the Kingdom of Bhutan.

University message on the death of Lauren Astley ’15

Incoming freshman Lauren Astley '15 of Wayland, Mass., was killed this week in her hometown. As her family, friends and future Elon classmates mourn her loss, Smith Jackson, vice president for student life and dean of students, emailed the university community on July 6, 2011, with reflections on Astley's accomplishments and her service to the community.
