Ron Klepcyk, director of human resources at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, has been honored by the College and University Professional Association for Human Resources with its 2011 Distinguished Service Award in recognition of his work with the association through constituent activities, such as governance or leadership roles, and through professional development contributions in support of the association.

Gary Palin, a senior lecturer and executive director of the Doherty Center for Entrepreneurial Leadership in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business, is one of seven individuals in a joint entrepreneurial venture that has raised more than $2.4 million from investors with interest in the company’s GPS technology to track people and pets.

Robert H. Moorman joins ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ’s faculty this month as the Frank S. Holt, Jr., Professor of Business Leadership in the Martha and Spencer Love School of Business. Named in honor of the former president of Holt Manufacturing Co. in Burlington, N.C., the professorship honors the vision, leadership and compassion that were trademarks of Frank Holt’s career.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ’s three newest residence halls open this fall with hundreds of students scheduled to move into earth-friendly buildings designed to blend academic and extracurricular life. The debut of Colonnades C, D and E – now named Kivette Hall, William W. Staley Hall and William A. Harper Hall, respectively – represents the completion of The Colonnades neighborhood adjacent to the Koury Business Center.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ hosted its 8th annual Teaching and Learning Conference this month as more than 250 faculty, program directors and administrators from 34 area colleges and universities examined student learning and faculty roles in creating active and engaged learning environments, as well as the technologies that support these environments.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ’s campus bookstore opened for business Monday morning in the Elon Town Center on Williamson Avenue with students, faculty, staff and local citizens visiting a shop offering an expanded selection of college apparel, general interest books and school supplies.

Elon’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, the honorary organization for financial information students and professionals, was awarded “Gold chapter” status during the national organization’s annual conference this month in Denver. Elon was one of seven chapters to achieve the honor, which is the highest award level a chapter can receive.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ President Leo M. Lambert used his opening of school address on Monday morning to emphasize the financial constraints that many families face when deciding on college, and how Elon must continue to expand its scholarship offerings to students at a time of national economic uncertainty.

¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ President Leo M. Lambert announced this week a special campus initiative to collect and distribute school supplies to hundreds of homeless children in Alamance County and to children at a school in Afghanistan who struggle for access to basic educational materials.
