Mahanayake is visiting Elon all the way from Sri Lanka, a small island near India known both for its beautiful beaches and for its incredible biodiversity. Originally an ornithologist, Mahanayake has become heavily involved in the Sri Lankan environmental movement and is also the world’s first photographer of the Horton Plains Slender Loris, a creature thought to be extinct until his photograph was published. Since that photo, Mahanayake has devoted much of his time to studying and tracking the loris.

The talk will be Tuessday, March 15 from 4 to 5p.m. in KOBC 101/LaRose Digital Theater. See you there!

Chamindha is heavily involved in the environmental movement and works as a wildlife photographer in Sri Lanka, a world biodiversity hotspot. He is the world’s first photographer of the Horton Plains Slender Loris, a small primate that was thought to be extinct until his photograph was published.

He is a wonderful source of information, not only about the environment, but about cultural differences between the United States and Sri Lanka. Come say hello!

If you are interested in learning more and then doing something about it, join the Student Global AIDS Campaign on an AIDS Walk in Raleigh on May 2 from noon to 6 p.m.

April 29 at 9 p.m. in the Commuter Lounge – Informational and Team Meeting. All are welcome to attend to learn more about the Walk and sign up to participate.

April 30 at 8pm in Oaks 201 – Short documentary titled “Blood Lines” (23 minutes long) with an even shorter discussion afterward. Take a study break and learn about AIDS! All are welcome, including those not attending the walk!

Join the Student Global AIDS Campaign at an AIDS walk hosted by Alliance of AIDS Services Carolina on May 2 between about noon and 6pm. The walk is at Halifax Mall in Raleigh, NC. We will provide transportation (snazzy Elon vans) and best of all, you don’t have to raise money! The organization is working on fundraising on its own, so you don’t have to do it individually. What could be better?!

HIV testing with Alamance Cares the first Thursday of every month /u/news/2008/12/04/hiv-testing-with-alamance-cares-the-first-thursday-of-every-month/ Thu, 04 Dec 2008 15:27:00 +0000 /u/news/2008/12/04/hiv-testing-with-alamance-cares-the-first-thursday-of-every-month/ Beginning on Thursday, October 2, Alamance Cares (a local AIDS non-profit) and the Student Global AIDS Campaign will be administering free and anonymous HIV tests on the first Thursday of every month.

Testing is between 9 and 11 a.m. in the R.N. Ellington Health Center. One test takes about 3 minutes, and you will also receive counseling with a trained expert. Come and take the most important test of your life!
