Join a new student organization and help alleviate poverty /u/news/2008/07/09/join-a-new-student-organization-and-help-alleviate-poverty/ Wed, 09 Jul 2008 12:22:00 +0000 /u/news/2008/07/09/join-a-new-student-organization-and-help-alleviate-poverty/ Elon is starting a chapter
of Nourish International and we’re currently recruiting members and leaders.

Nourish is an organization whose mission is to alleviate poverty by engaging
students and empowering communities. Nourish was founded at UNC and is
expanding on campuses throughout the U.S. The basic Nourish model
involves students earning money and raising awareness about global poverty
through ventures throughout the school year in order to conduct community
development projects abroad. Over the summer, students from Nourish Chapters
travel abroad to partner with local communities in implementing these solutions.

Past projects have taken students to Peru,
Mexico, Uganda, Honduras,
Tanzania, Argentina, Guatemala,
and India.

If you’re interested in joining Nourish and/or becoming a leader, please
contact Erika Lamanna (elamanna@elon.edu) for more information!

If you’ll be in North Carolina
from Aug. 8-12, ask about Nourish International’s Summer Institute – a great, free
opportunity for chapter leaders from across the country to gather and learn
more about economic development, global poverty and leading a Nourish chapter.

Be sure to check out the project blogs and overview video of Nourish on the
website!
