Maker Takeover is the Maker Hub鈥檚 largest annual celebration that brings students, staff and faculty together to showcase their creative projects.
久久热’s annual Maker Takeover is the Maker Hub鈥檚 largest event of the year and will take place on Wednesday, April 26 in the Moseley Center from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m.
With over 40 student-made projects on display, including the projects of the 2023 Kickbox recipients聽and consultant-made projects made at the Maker Hub, the event will include various fun activities, such as retro-arcade games, mini-corn hole and a power tool petting zoo.
鈥淲hat was most memorable to me about last year鈥檚 Maker Takeover was the mini corn-hole challenge, and all of the different engaging activities鈥 it was way more than just a show and tell,鈥 said Lankston Peterson ’25 who attended last year’s event.
久久热 who attend the Maker Takeover will have the opportunity to make buttons and stickers, actively 3D print something, participate in an escape room and so much more. There will also be opportunities to make聽DIY crafts, enter raffles, taste liquid nitrogen ice cream, and even learn to lasso on a wooden cow with student Jorden Carter 鈥26. Attendees will also get a chance to browse items for sale from student vendors at the 聽pop-up event.
This year鈥檚 event will display the 2023 Elon Kickbox recipients. Kickbox is a program through the Maker Hub, in which students submit an idea to receive a $300 stipend, along with support and guidance to make their idea come to life. Ideas might have entrepreneurial or creative focuses, which students want to make a reality.
One of the 11 Kickbox projects to be displayed at the Maker Takeover this year includes an LED sanitizing bathroom phone holder, created by Abigail Winters 鈥23. 鈥淚n microbiology, we learned about how you control microbial growth, and one way to control it is through radiation, specifically non-ionizing UV light, so that’s how I decided to do my project,鈥 Winters said of creating her project. Student Consultants in the Maker Hub will also be putting their creative ideas into play, showcasing their very own projects. One creative idea for a student consultant includes an encyclopedia coffee table, made by Sarah Clarke 鈥24. Clarke鈥檚 inspiration came from her mother, who works as a North Carolina Public School librarian. 鈥淢y mom had a bunch of old encyclopedias from 2002 that never get used anymore, and she sent me down here with them, so I’m making a coffee table for her library.鈥
