In this interactive workshop, Faculty members Kyle Altmann, Benjamin Evans and Chris Richardson from the Department of Physics will discuss the โLetters Homeโ assignment and the best practices in writing instruction that it incorporates (writing for a real audience, purpose and genres and providing a rubric for students to use in the writing process). We’ll ask participants to work through real examples of the assignment in order to see how they could successfully use it in their own disciplinary classes. We will also discuss the value of this assignment in helping students to learn content and convey complex ideas to non-expert audiences.
