Brad Rhew led the teacher candidates through a 5E Science Lab that investigated the relationship between force and mass on Oct. 3 during EDU 412.
The EDU 412: Principles of Learning and Teaching II course taught by Assistant Professor Katie Baker welcomed Brad Rhew on Tuesday, Oct. 3.
Rhew is the K-5 science coach for Cook Literacy Model School and was the 2014 NC Outstanding K-8 Educator by the N.C. Science, Mathematics, and Technology Education Center and a 2014 NC Teacher of Excellence. He is currently a Burroughs Wellcome Science and Mathematics Teacher Career Award Recipient.
Rhew guided the teacher candidates through a 5E Science Lab (Engage, Explore, Explain, Extend/Elaborate and Evaluate) that investigated the relationship between force and mass. The lab provided a hands-on experience around student-centered science.
Rhew also shared tips on meaningful vocabulary integration in science. The EDU 412 teacher candidates will directly apply some of the day’s components in their upcoming ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ experiences in the field.
