North Carolina A&T State University Chancellor Harold L. Martin Sr. received the 2013 Leo M. Lambert Engaged Leader Award from the on Feb. 13 at the Pathways to Achieving Civic Engagement Conference held on Elon’s campus.
The award, named for ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ President Leo M. Lambert, recognizes a presidential leader who is building a campus that engages in reciprocal partnerships to impact a community’s greatest challenges.
“I am honored to receive this kind of recognition from my peers,” Martin said. “I am committed to making sure N.C. A&T continues to create and sustain opportunities that impact our campus and community.”
The North Carolina ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Compact, founded in 2002, is a coalition of 38 public and private colleges and universities in the state. The mission is to build the capacity of colleges and universities to produce civically-engaged graduates and strengthen communities. A&T has been a member since 2009.
Martin was nominated for the award by Chancellor Kenneth Peacock from Appalachian State University. The nomination was then placed before a board of eight chancellors and presidents from colleges and universities that belong to the Compact.
In the award commendation, Martin was described “a visionary leader with a strong commitment to higher education and to collaborations with community, educational, and business entities.”
