Elon names new assistant dean of students

After an extensive national search, campus leaders have announced that Jodean Schmiederer will join ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ as its new assistant dean of students, with overall responsibility for the Moseley ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ Center, Greek Life, Student Judicial Affairs, Student Activities, Summer Conferences, and Family Weekend.

Originally from Iowa, Schmiederer earned her ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ degree from Truman State University in Missouri and masters of education from the University of South Florida. 

She brings 15 years of experience in progressively responsible positions in student affairs positions from four institutions of higher education, most recently as the director of the Office of Student Life; Student Ombudsman at the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston, Texas.  

Schmiederer has a broad range of experiences in her portfolio with ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ, graduate and adult populations, which include: student activities and programming boards, mediation and judicial board experience, cultural awareness programs, new student orientation, student center administration, fitness center management, advisement of Student Government and student organizations, Greek Life and Greek housing, supervision and fiscal management, academic advisement (for athletes and the general student body) and ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ leadership studies and first-year experiences courses.
 
Jodean and her husband, Mike, have two sons, Garrett (5) and Jake (13).
