The Elon Opera Workshop will perform at 7:30 p.m., Friday, April 20 at the Paramount Theatre in downtown Burlington.
The ensemble will perform scenes from Johann Strauss’s sparkling operetta “Die Fledermaus” and a one-act opera called “Gallantry” by Douglas Moore.
Although the two works are separated by a century, both deal with the intrigues of philandering husbands. “Die Fledermaus” lightheartedly pokes fun at the relationships of the waning 19th century Austrian nobility, while “Gallantry” is a 1950’s soap opera about a love triangle within a modern medical center.
The operas are tuneful, funny, and very entertaining. ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ from both departments of Music and Performing Arts are featured. The production is directed by Professors Hallie Hogan and Lisbeth Brittain Carter. Tickets for reserved seating are $5.00 or free with an Elon ID and may be purchased at the Paramount Theatre. The box office number for tickets is 222-8497.
