Five proposals by faculty members in Elon College, the College of Arts of Sciences, have been awarded grants by The Fund for Excellence in the Arts and Sciences. A selection committee made up of Phi Beta Kappa members, in consultation with Steven House, dean of Elon College, received 13 proposals.
The following proposals have received funding:
- “The Visiting Writers Series at Elon: A Growing Liberal Arts Program for a Growing Liberal Arts University,” submitted by Kevin Boyle, Cassie Kircher, Tita Ramirez, and Drew Perry–$3,500.
- “In the Midst of a Movement: A Conference on the South, the Press and Civil Rights,” submitted by Jim Bissett and Brooke Barnett–$3,150.
- “The Inquiry Process Using Mathematics and Science Center Exhibits and the Development Needs of Sri Lanka,” submitted by Crista Arangala and Martin Kamela–$5,500.
- “Centering Women and Gender: The W/GS Program Initiative,” submitted by Gabie Smith, Lisa Marie Peloquin, Lee-Anne Royster, Angela Lewellyn-Jones, Lynn Huber, Cassie Kircher and Kirsten Ringelberg–$4,000.
- “Next-Level Initiatives in Philosophy as Transformative Practice,” submitted by Anthony Weston and the Philosophy department–$3,500.
The Fund for Excellence in the Arts and Sciences committee accepts proposals for projects that deepen the values, the intellectual community, the research, ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ and habits of thinking that are characteristic of the liberal arts and sciences. The grants are available to ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ faculty, staff and students.
