Student Is Finalist in National Writing Competition

Irene Harvley-Felder (’05) was a finalist in a nonfiction contest sponsored by Fourth Genre, the preeminent journal in nonfiction. The competition in the contest was extremely stiff: 1st prize went to the Chair of the English Department at the University of Nebraska and 2nd prize to a faculty member at Kansas State. Irene finished ahead of the Director of Creative Writing at Georgia College and State University. Quite a remarkable achievement!

Her winning essay, “The Advancing Light,” about her experiences ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ in Turkey in the summer of 2004, was written in her senior seminar in creative writing and was published in COLONNADES 2005.
