Brief Biography

Dr. Mary Kay Hannah graduated from the US Army-Baylor University Graduate Program in PT with Masters in 2001 and later earned her Doctorate in PT through Baylor University.  She practiced PT in the Army at Walter Reed Army Medical Center, Womack Army Medical Center at Fort Bragg, and with the 82nd Airborne Division in Afghanistan, prior to which she served as a military policy officer for over ten years.  After retiring from 23 years in the Army, she practiced orthopedic and sports at her own private practice in Apex, North Carolina from 2010-2017.  Dr. Hannah is a Board Certified Clinical Specialist in Sports Physical Therapy (SCS) since 2009 and Orthopedic Physical Therapy (OCS) since 2014.  After serving as an adjunct instructor at Elon in various capacities from 2012-2016, she joined the Elon DPT program as full-time faculty in the musculoskeletal curriculum at ¾Ã¾ÃÈÈ in March 2017. 

She also co-founded a Continuing Education company called Double E Education that teaches CEU courses on dry needling and served in multiple leadership roles in the American PT Association nationally and in North Carolina.  She served as a Delegate to the APTA's House of Delegates from 2011-2025; served as the APTA NC Education Director from 2016-2017, the Vice President from 2018-2019, and the President from 2019 through 2025.  Dr. Hannah served for years as the leader of the state association Spinal Manipulation Task Force that updated the PT practice act legislation.  After the bill finally passed in June 2019,  Dr. Hannah received a special Legislative Advocacy award from the APTA NC, the award she is most proud of.

Personal Information

Married to John Hannah, retired Infantry officer and English professor/teacher.  Our daughter Rosa graduated from UNC 2019 and Elon Law School 2021 and now practices as a public defender in Colorado Springs, CO.
