Leaving my home, my friends, and my family to pursue the dream of becoming a lawyer was one of the hardest decisions I’ve ever made. I crossed borders carrying hope, fear, and the weight of everything and everyone I was leaving behind. There were moments when I missed my country so deeply that it felt like a part of me was still back home.

But even from miles away, my loved ones never left me alone.

My family’s love reached me across every distance in every message, every call, every prayer, every “tú puedes.” Their support became my

strength on the hardest days, reminding me why I started this journey.

And then, law school gave me something unexpected: a new village.

Amigos who became family, mentors who believed in me, classmates who studied with me, lifted me, laughed with me, cried with me, and made a foreign place feel like home. Their presence helped ease the ache of missing my country and allowed me to grow roots in a new land without losing the ones I came from.

This degree is not mine alone.

It belongs to the people who raised me and the people who welcomed me.

It belongs to the village that shaped me and the village that found me.

I want to thank God and my family for all the love, care and support that you have given me during my schooling. Decidir volver a estudiar y obtener mi BSN fue un gran desafío, y aún más un ABSN mientras trabajaba. Las palabras de ánimo y el apoyo que me ha dado mi familia han sido una verdadera bendición. Mi familia es mi mundo entero, mi motivación y la razón por la que me esfuerzo para ser mejor cada día. In our culture, family is very important and special, nuestras familias son por naturaleza nuestros mentores, amigos, maestros y apoyo. I want to give a huge thanks to my family for all the support and sacrifice that have helped me achieve my dreams. I wouldn’t be in this position if it weren’t for you. You are the reason behind my successes and what pushes me every day to be the best version of myself. To my parents, thank you for �þ��� me the value of hard work, humility, and perseverance. You showed me that nothing in life is achieved without effort, discipline, and heart. Everything that I am, and everything I accomplish, is a reflection of what you taught me at home. To my sister, thank you for being my unconditional companion, for listening to me during difficult moments, for motivating me, and for making me laugh when I needed it most. There is no greater gift than knowing I always have you by my side, no matter the distance.

I am also grateful to my grandparents for being able to fulfill the dream of being here with me today, celebrating this great milestone of mine, and for accompanying me for the first time to a commencement ceremony. I know it took a great effort to travel all the way here, and for that I dedicate my achievements to you with all my heart.

I want to send a big hug to everyone in Uruguay who follows me, supports me, and always wishes me the best. I dedicate this diploma to you as well, for being part of a community that has given me everything. The Charrúa blood runs through my veins, in who I am, in my values, and in the lessons you have given me. It is a pride to be Uruguayan, to give everything for my flag. My beautiful little country. ¡Uruguay nomá!

To my village—my family, extended family, and all those whose sacrifices and resilience made this moment possible— As I graduate with my Doctor of Physical Therapy, I do so with deep gratitude and profound respect for the generations who came before me. Today is not solely a personal milestone; it is the continuation of a legacy shaped by endurance, humility, and unwavering commitment to family.

To my grandparents: your story stands at the foundation of everything I have achieved. You were raised with limited resources and few opportunities. Formal education was not accessible to you, yet you carried wisdom far beyond what any classroom could offer.

Beginning your family at just 16 years old, you went on to raise twenty children in the small town of Ralls, Texas—a place where hard work was not optional but essential for survival. In circumstances that would have overwhelmed many, you created a

home defined by strength, faith, and abundance. You demonstrated that dignity is earned through integrity, that sacrifice is an act of love, and that the measure of a life is found in the opportunities we create for those who come after us.

To my parents, brother, aunts, uncles, and cousins that have supported me: thank you for instilling in me the values that guided me through this beautiful journey. Your encouragement and belief in my potential have been constant sources of motivation. The collective effort of our family—each story of perseverance, each example of fortitude, each reminder of where we come from—carried me through every challenge.

My Hispanic heritage is both an honor and a responsibility. It reminds me that my accomplishments are not mine alone, but are rooted in the sacrifices, traditions, and dreams of those who paved the way. As I enter this profession, I do so with the understanding that I carry my village with me. Your lessons will guide my practice, your example will shape my service, and your legacy will remind me always of the purpose behind this achievement.

Hoy es un día para celebrar, lo logramos.

I am proud to stand here before you today as we celebrate our Hispanic and Latinx graduate students. Today is the day all our hard work, sweat, and tears pay off. When you think about today, think back to when you first dreamed of receiving a professional degree. The same person who worked hard every single day to accomplish their goals is the same person sitting here, now waiting to walk on the stage.

The world may seem crazy at times, but as long as we stand together and celebrate each other’s success, we will always move forward. Not only are we getting new lawyers, Doctors of Physical Therapy, Physician Assistants, and nurses, but we are gaining new role models for the generation that will come after us. We are more than the stereotypes that were placed on us, and every accomplishment shows that we are not lazy, and we are not here to take anyone’s job. We are here because we have worked for it, earned it, and deserve it.

The moment matters not only for us, but for those watching. Even when things felt uncertain, we kept going and today reminds us that what we achieve has meaning. What we accomplish becomes a reference point for those coming after

us, just like I want my little brother to grow up seeing that beating the odds is possible.

Our families are the emotional support we held onto through this journey. I know that without my mom and my stepdad, I wouldn’t have made it this far. Our roots keep us grounded and remind us of where we come from, even when life becomes overwhelming.

Being able to have my little brother who goes around telling everyone that his older sister is a lawyer and my mom who proudly tries to refer her friends to talk to me because “her daughter is a lawyer”, are the moments that pushed me to continue working towards my goals.

My family helped me find a little ray of sunshine during moments when everything felt dark and never ending. Holding onto the hope of making them proud and being an example to other girls who may feel their dreams are too big, reminded me that everything is possible. Today is proof of what love, sacrifice, and commitment can build.

And as we close this chapter, I want to leave you with a quote that represents our journey and our future:

“Si puedes soñarlo, puedes lograrlo.”

On my first day of law school, Professor Friedland asked us to list the people we were doing this for. I wrote down my mom, my brother Ryan, Aba, and my boyfriend Chase. I could not have reached this milestone without them by my side.

Mom, you are the strongest woman I know. Through your heart, dedication, and faith in God, you have shown me anything is possible. I grew up watching you face every obstacle with courage and never losing faith in God. When I doubted myself, I thought of you and found strength. You have taught me that hard work requires heart, sacrifice, and perseverance. You are one of my greatest role models, and because of you, I have another in my brother, Ryan.

Ryan, I am so lucky to have you as my brother. You taught me what it means to be passionate about something, not just sports, but something I truly love. You showed me what drive and dedication really look like. You committed yourself to becoming a doctor and worked so hard to get to where you are today. Because of you, I learned when I put my mind to something , I can make my dreams come true. One of those dreams was to celebrate this special day with my Aba.

Aba, gracias por siempre estar ahí para mí. Siempre pude contar con tu llamada a las siete y media de la noche para preguntarme cómo me fue en el día y, por supuesto, qué había comido. Me recordaban que soy querida, y que siempre hay alguien pendiente de las cositas pequeñas. Le doy gracias a Dios todos los mi vida; eres mi bendición más grande y el corazón de nuestra familia.

I stand here today because of all of you!

Today, I stand before you filled with gratitude, hope and pride. From the free dinners, the “get a coffee” gift cards, and the simple texts checking in—thank you to all the angels in my life who reminded me to keep going, even when giving up felt easier.

To my mami, who never stopped saying, “Échale ganas, mija,” thank you for being my strength. To every friend, mentor, and supporter who walked this journey with me—this moment belongs to you too. Most of all, I thank the man upstairs. Psalms 119:105 says, “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.” God, thank you for giving me resilience, vision, and the courage to dream big. As a first-generation, DACAmented Latina, this achievement is more than a diploma—it’s a statement. It’s proof that barriers and stereotypes can be broken; and that dreams can bloom even in the harshest soil. This is for me, for my family, and for my Hispanic community. Keep pushing, keep believing. Si se puede!

My Hispanic heritage and Venezuelan roots have shaped the person I am today in every possible way. In my culture, family is everything—it’s the foundation of our strength, our values, and our motivation to keep moving forward. Growing up surrounded by love, laughter, and a deep sense of togetherness taught me that no dream is achieved alone.

My family has always been my greatest source of encouragement and support, reminding me that their sacrifices and belief in me are what make every success meaningful. Even though much of my extended family remains in Venezuela, they continue to inspire me every day. Their resilience and unwavering spirit motivate me to work hard, to persevere, and to make them proud no matter where I am in the world. My culture has taught me to value community, to celebrate progress, and to uplift others along the way. Standing here today, I carry not only my own accomplishments but also the love and hope of my family and my culture. I am proud to represent my Hispanic heritage, and I dedicate this moment to the family—near and far—whose strength, warmth, and faith in me have made this celebration possible.

To my village—my parents, my siblings, my partner, my family, and my community—this moment belongs to all of us. Before anything, I want to thank God for blessing me with each of you. The people He placed in my life have carried me, strengthened me, and protected my spirit throughout this journey. I could not be here without His guidance and without the love He surrounded me with.

Mom and Dad, you came to this country with nothing but faith, courage, and a desire to give us a better life. You learned a new language, worked jobs that demanded everything, and did it all with humility and love. Every early morning, every late night, every sacrifice you never spoke about, they carried me to this moment. I am the fruit of your labor. Your story is the foundation of my strength, and I will spend my life honoring the paths you walked so I could run.

To my siblings, thank you for grounding me, for reminding me to laugh, and for being my safe place when nursing school felt overwhelming. And to my partner, your unconditional love, your constant support, and the weight you carried so I could chase this dream made this journey possible. Thank you for believing in me, even on the days I doubted myself. The way you showed up for me, with patience and unwavering faith, means more than I could ever express.

As a first-generation Latina—the very first in my family to navigate college and a professional path with no roadmap and no one to guide me—I carry my community with me. And soon, as a bilingual nurse stepping into the Cardiovascular Intensive Care Unit, a space where faces like mine are still far too few, I am honored to work toward bridging healthcare gaps for my Latinx community and to step into spaces our families once only dreamed of.

To the next generation: take up every space that was not built for us. Let our small numbers motivate you, not limit you. Work hard, believe fiercely, and never be ashamed of your roots, they are your superpower.

Thank you to my community, for being my everything. This degree has my name, but it is our victory.

Dejar mi hogar, mis amigos y mi familia para perseguir el sueño de convertirme en abogada fue una de las decisiones más difíciles que he tomado en mi vida. Crucé fronteras cargando esperanza, miedo y el peso de todo y a quienes dejaba atrás. Hubo momentos en los que extrañaba mi país de una forma tan profunda que sentía que una parte de mi seguía allá. Pero a pesar de las miles de millas de distancia, mis seres queridos nunca me dejaron sola.

El amor de mi familia me alcanzaba a través de la distancia en cada mensaje, cada llamada, cada oración, cada “tú puedes”. Su apoyo se convirtió en mi fuerza en los días más difíciles, recordándome el por que había comenzado este recorrido. Y luego, la escuela de derecho me dio algo inesperado: una nueva comunidad. Amigos que se convirtieron en familia, mentores que creyeron en mí, compañeros que estudiaron conmigo, me levantaron, rieron conmigo, lloraron conmigo e hicieron que un lugar extraño se sintiera como un hogar. Su presencia ayudó a aliviar el dolor de extrañar mi país y me permitió echar raíces en una nueva tierra sin perder las que había traído conmigo.

Este diploma no es sólo mío. Pertenece a las personas que me criaron y a las personas que me dieron la bienvenida.

Pertenece a la comunidad que me formó y a la comunidad que me encontró.

Le quiero dar gracias a Dios y a mi familia por todo el amor, cariño y apoyo que me han dado durante la escuela. Deciding to go back to school, and getting my BSN was very challenging, let alone an ABSN while working. The words of encouragement and support my family have given me, have been such a blessing. My family is my whole world, my motivation and the reason I push myself to do better and be better. En nuestra cultura, la familia es muy importante y especial, our families are our built-in mentors, friends, teachers, and support. As I am about to graduate as a new nurse, so is my family. Gracias Mami y Papi, los quiero mucho.

Quiero darles las mil gracias a mi familia por todo el apoyo y sacrificio para ayudarme a cumplir mis sueños. No pudiera estar en esta posición si no fuera por ustedes, son la razón de mis éxitos y lo que me impulsa cada día a ser la mejor versión de mí. A mis padres, gracias por enseñarme el valor del esfuerzo, la humildad y la perseverancia. Ustedes me mostraron que nada en la vida se consigue sin trabajo, disciplina y corazón. Todo lo que soy, y todo lo que logre, es reflejo de lo que me enseñaron en casa. A mi hermana, gracias por ser mi compañera incondicional, por escucharme en los momentos difíciles, por motivarme y hacerme reír cuando más lo necesitaba. No hay mejor regalo que saber que siempre los tengo a mi lado, sin importar la distancia.

Les agradezco también a mis abuelos por poder cumplir con el sueño de estar acá conmigo hoy en día, celebrando esta gran meta mía, y por acompañarme por primera vez en una graduación. Sé que fue un gran esfuerzo viajar hasta acá, y por eso les dedico mis logros a ustedes con todo mi corazón.

Quiero enviar un gran abrazo a todos los que están en Uruguay, que me siguen, me apoyan y me desean siempre lo mejor. Este diploma también se los dedico a ustedes, por ser parte de una comunidad que me ha dado todo. La sangre charrúa corre por mis venas, en mi forma de ser, en mis valores y en las enseñanzas que me han regalado. Es un orgullo ser uruguayo, darlo todo por mi bandera. Mi paisito lindo. ¡Uruguay nomá!

A mi comunidad—mi familia, mi familia extendida y todas las personas cuyos sacrificios y resiliencia hicieron posible este momento.

Al graduarme con mi Doctorado en Fisioterapia, lo hago con profunda gratitud y un profundo respeto por las generaciones que vinieron antes de mí. Demostraron que la dignidad se gana con integridad, que el sacrificio es un acto de amor y que el valor de una vida se encuentra en las oportunidades que creamos para quienes vienen después de nosotros.

A mis padres, hermano, tías, tíos y primos que me han apoyado: gracias por inculcarme los valores que me guiaron durante este hermoso camino. Su apoyo y su fe en mi potencial han sido una fuente constante de inspiración. El esfuerzo colectivo de nuestra familia—cada historia de perseverancia, cada ejemplo de fortaleza, cada recordatorio de nuestras raíces—me sostuvo en cada desafío.

Mi herencia hispana es tanto un honor como una responsabilidad. Me recuerda que mis logros no son solo míos, sino que están arraigados en los sacrificios, las tradiciones y los sueños de quienes abrieron el camino. Al entrar en esta profesión, lo hago con la certeza de que

llevo a mi comunidad conmigo. Sus enseñanzas guiarán mi práctica, su ejemplo dará forma a mi servicio y su legado me recordará siempre el propósito detrás de este logro.

Hoy es un día para celebrar, lo logramos.

Me enorgullece estar aquí frente a ustedes mientras celebramos a nuestros estudiantes graduados hispanos y latinx. Hoy es el día en que todo nuestro trabajo, sudor y lágrimas valen la pena. Cuando piensen en este momento, recuerden cuando soñaron por primera vez con obtener un título profesional. La misma persona que trabajó arduamente todos los días para alcanzar sus metas es la misma persona que hoy está aquí, esperando para caminar sobre el escenario.

El mundo puede parecer un poco loco, pero mientras permanezcamos unidos y celebremos los éxitos de los demás, siempre avanzaremos. No solo estamos recibiendo nuevos abogados, doctores en terapia física, asistentes de médico y enfermeras, sino que también estamos ganando nuevos modelos a seguir para la generación que vendrá después de nosotros. Somos más que los estereotipos que nos han impuesto, y cada logro demuestra que no somos perezosos y que no estamos aquí para quitarle el trabajo a nadie. Estamos aquí porque hemos trabajado por ello, lo hemos ganado y lo merecemos.

Este momento es importante no solo para nosotros, sino también para quienes nos observan. Incluso cuando las cosas se sentían inciertas, seguimos adelante, y hoy nos recuerda que lo que logramos tiene un significado. Lo que alcanzamos se convierte en un punto de referencia para quienes vienen después, así como yo deseo que mi hermanito crezca viendo que superar las expectativas es posible.

Nuestras familias son el apoyo emocional al que nos aferramos durante este camino. Sé que sin mi mamá y mi padrastro no habría llegado tan lejos. Nuestras raíces nos mantienen con los pies en la tierra y nos recuerdan de dónde venimos, incluso cuando la vida se vuelve abrumadora.

Poder tener a mi hermanito, que va por ahí diciéndole a todos que su hermana mayor es abogada, y a mi mamá, que orgullosa intenta referir a sus amigas para que hablen conmigo porque “su hija es abogada”, son los momentos que me impulsaron a seguir trabajando por mis metas.

Mi familia me ayudó a encontrar un pequeño rayo de sol en momentos donde todo se sentía oscuro e interminable. Aferrarme a la esperanza de hacerlos sentir orgullosos y ser un ejemplo para otras niñas que puedan sentir que sus sueños son demasiado grandes, me recordó que todo es posible. Hoy es prueba de lo que el amor, el sacrificio y el compromiso pueden construir.

Y mientras cerramos este capítulo, quiero dejarles una frase que representa nuestro camino y nuestro futuro:

“Si puedes soñarlo, puedes lograrlo.”

En mi primer día de la facultad de derecho, el profesor Friedland nos pidió que hiciéramos una lista de las personas por las que estábamos haciendo esto. Yo escribí mi mamá, mi hermano Ryan, mi Aba y a mi novio Chase. No hubiera podido alcanzar este logro sin ellos a mi lado.

Mamá, eres la mujer más fuerte que conozco. A través de tu corazón, dedicación y fe en Dios, me has demostrado que todo es posible. Crecí viéndote enfrentar cada obstáculo con valentía y sin perder nunca tu fe en Dios. Cuando dudaba de mí misma, pensaba en ti y encontraba fuerza. Me enseñaste que el trabajo duro requiere corazón, sacrificio y perseverancia. Eres uno de mis más grandes modelos a seguir, y gracias a ti, también lo es mi hermano Ryan.

Ryan, soy muy afortunada de tenerte como hermano. Me enseñaste lo que significa tener verdadera pasión por algo , no solo en los deportes, sino en aquello que realmente amo. Me mostraste lo que de verdad son la entrega y la dedicación. Te comprometiste a convertirte en médico y trabajaste muy duro para llegar donde estás hoy. Gracias a ti aprendí que, cuando me propongo algo, puedo hacer mis sueños realidad. Uno de esos sueños era celebrar este día tan especial con mi Aba.

Aba, thank you for always being there for me. I could always count on your call at seven-thirty in the evening to ask me how my day went and, of course, what I ate. Your calls reminded me that I am loved and that there is always someone who cares about the little things. I thank God severy day for placing you in my life; you are my greatest blessing and the heart of our family.

Hoy estoy aquí ante ustedes llena de gratitud, esperanza y orgullo. Desde las cenas gratuitas, las tarjetas de regalo para “tomar un café” y los simples mensajes para ver cómo estaba—gracias a todos los ángeles en mi vida que me recordaron seguir adelante, incluso cuando rendirme parecía más fácil.

A mi mami, que nunca dejó de decirme, “Échale ganas, mija,” gracias por ser mi fuerza. A cada amigo, mentor y persona que me apoyó y caminó conmigo en este proceso—este momento también es de ustedes. Y sobre todo, agradezco al de arriba. Salmos 119:105 dice: “Tu palabra es una lámpara para mis pies y luz para mi camino.” Dios, gracias por darme resiliencia, visión y el valor para soñar en grande. Como una mujer latina de primera generación con DACA, este logro es más que un diploma—es una declaración. Es prueba de que las barreras y los estereotipos se pueden romper, y que los sueños pueden florecer incluso en la tierra más dura.

Esto es para mí, para mi familia y para mi comunidad hispana. Sigan adelante, sigan creyendo. ¡Sí se puede!

Mi herencia hispana y mis raíces venezolanas han moldeado la persona que soy hoy en absolutamente todos los sentidos. En mi cultura, la familia lo es todo: es la base de nuestra fuerza, nuestros valores y nuestra motivación para seguir adelante. Crecer rodeada de amor, risas y un profundo sentido de unión me enseñó que ningún sueño se logra solo. Mi familia siempre ha sido mi mayor fuente de apoyo y aliento, recordándome que sus sacrificios y su fe en mí son lo que hace que cada éxito tenga significado. Aunque gran parte de mi familia sigue en Venezuela, continúan inspirándome cada día. Su resiliencia y espíritu resistente me motivan a trabajar duro, preservar y hacerlos sentir orgullosos sin importar en qué lugar del mundo me encuentre. Mi cultura me ha enseñado a valorar la comunidad, a celebrar los avances y a elevar a otros en el camino. Hoy, al estar aquí, llevo conmigo no solo mis propios logros, sino también el amor y la esperanza de mi familia y de mi cultura. Me siento orgullosa de representar mi herencia hispana, y dedico este momento a mi familia, cercana y lejana, cuya fortaleza, calidez y fe en mí han hecho posible esta celebración.

A mi comunidad—mis padres, mis hermanos, mi pareja, mi familia y mi gente—este momento es de todos nosotros. Antes que nada, quiero darle gracias a Dios por bendecirme con cada uno de ustedes. Las personas que Él puso en mi vida me han levantado, fortalecido y protegido mi espíritu a lo largo de este camino. No estaría aquí sin Su guía ni sin el amor con el que me rodeó.

Mamá y Papá, ustedes llegaron a este país con nada más que fe, valentía y el deseo de darnos una vida mejor. Aprendieron un nuevo idioma, trabajaron en empleos que lo exigían todo y lo hicieron siempre con humildad y amor. Cada madrugada, cada desvelo, cada sacrificio que nunca mencionaron, todo me trajo hasta este momento. Yo soy el fruto de sus esfuerzos. Su historia es la base de mi fortaleza, y dedicaré mi vida a honrar los caminos que ustedes recorrieron para que yo pudiera correr.

A mis hermanos, gracias por mantenerme con los pies en la tierra, por recordarme reír y por ser mi refugio cuando la escuela de enfermería parecía difícil. Y a mi pareja—tu amor incondicional, tu apoyo constante y el peso que cargaste para que yo pudiera perseguir este sueño hicieron posible este logro. Gracias por creer en mí incluso en los días en que yo dudaba. La forma en que estuviste presente para mí, con paciencia y fe profunda, significa más de lo que podría expresar.

Como una Latina de primera generación—la primera en mi familia en navegar la universidad y un camino profesional sin guía ni mapa—llevo a mi comunidad conmigo. Y pronto, al comenzar mi residencia como enfermera bilingüe en la Unidad de Cuidados Intensivos Cardiovasculares, una área donde aún son muy pocas las enfermeras Latinx, me honra poder abrir caminos y mejorar el acceso y cuidado de nuestra comunidad y ocupar espacios con los que nuestras familias solo podían soñar.

A la próxima generación: ocupen cada espacio que no fue hecho para nosotros. Que nuestros números pequeños los impulsen, no los limiten. Trabajen duro, crean con fuerza y nunca se avergüencen de sus raíces; son su superpoder.

Gracias a mi comunidad, por ser mi todo. Este título lleva mi nombre, pero es nuestra victoria.
